Give me a 35 MPH road that lasts forever and my hybrid will return 60 miles per gallon of gas. All day long.

What will the 2.0 EcoBoost Maverick do in this situation?

This was a less than ideal drive with a few stoplights and a few stop signs.

But I get close to 60 MPG every day. AFE set to 950/1000. (5% correction down)

The hybrid is also good in grid lock situations. I've driven the ecoboost too, and I think both are great.

I'm amazed at 60MPG. Obviously, I'm a piker at this. My long, non-stop, and for me high mpg (just north of 40mpg) drives are 45 or 50 mph.

I'm guessing this doesn't involve drafting (which can make a massive difference). I'm also wondering if this involved more than just choosing "ECO" mode?

Kudos, sir!

If everybody that didn't need a big ass pickup (or SUV) getting MPG in the teens bought either Maverick it would go a long way to lowering US energy use and help reduce pollution!
27 or 30 years ago Toyota made and sold a diesel Tacoma. In Canada !
A buddy and I owned a buy here pay here car lot. Small operation, averaging 50 cars out on the hook at any given time.
50 car payments coming in WEEKLY!
$60-$90? a week, you do the math. Owned the land, business and building.

Hey, It was our hustle.
He could not buy that diesel Toyota. And why would he want to do that ?
How about 50 mpg in town, 53 on the interstate. Diesel.

The DOT and or the EPA banned the sale of that vehicle in the states. Three of these engines polluted a bit less than ONE of our current GAS Taco trucks.

I’ll give ya one guess as to who paid off the road and air folks.

So, my buddy up and ordered just one diesel engine and as many powertrain parts as he could find.

His mistake. Had it all mailed to the dealership.
We had five Tacos. All needing engines.

He almost went to jail and the fines would have bankrupted him.
He had a good Lawyer, no jail but he was broke.
I survived because it was one of two side hustle’s.
Well, I lost a $50,000 a year income.
That sucked.
It polluted so much less than the engines we had and burned so little fuel.

And it was stopped from selling here.

I don't use Eco Mode except rare circumstances. The Regen is too strong.

I go opposite. Slippery mode and even once in a while, Neutral coasting.

Coasting is key to high mpg, something you can't do much of on high speed highways.

Think of a rocket to the moon.
Spend fuel up front, coast for days.

In driving it is called "Pulse n Glide".

Coasting is great but where I live there are a ton of stop lights and to boost revenues they have the yellow lights timed to the minimum. When I use slippery I find I have to jam on the brakes more than I'd like to. Eco seems to give me the best chance to maximize my recharging. There is a long stretch going up to my son's house without any lights or stop signs - I will try slippery next time I head up.

Ya. When in Slippery mode you need to pretend it is slippery. Brake early! (But gently!)

Bonus is you won't be rear-ended.
I think Eco and for sure using "L" increases odds of being rear-ended.

If I break out ye olde topographical map I find that the level highway to get to Home Depot works with “slippery” the best. The stop-n-go traffic lights with hills to the grocery calls for “eco”. And then…. Nah, I’m a quite normal person and will just deal with what the Ford engineers considered “normal”. I guess it would be fun to play the game though.
11k miles, holding 44.8mpg throughout.

Do you manually keep records of your MPG?

Yes, trip shows 44.6mpg (surprisingly close). Although I’m around hills, nothing above 85kph (53mph) here.
My wife has a 2013 Prius we keep in FL with my brother. 2013 got 52mpg, now getting 42.5mpg. That’s what happens when batteries age. BTW… I’m heading there this week and picking up a rental :cwl: I Do not enjoy the Prius (newer models are better).

After reading about Mav's getting rear ended, I had a friend follow me to see if/when the brake lights come on. As soon as I apply any pressure on the brake pedal, just engaging the regen, the lights come on. I've never hit the "L" button, but eco regen without hitting the brakes slows me down about as much as taking my foot off the gas in my Subaru. I don't think I'll be getting rear ended by anyone that is paying attention, however I'm afraid that is a small percentage of the drivers out there.

Slowing with L pressed slows the vehicle about twice as fast as any other vehicle in "drive". Don't be fooled.

It is, after all, mimicking slowing in a low gear. Something everyone else around you probably isn't doing.

And with no brake lamps unless your foot is pressing the brake pedal.

Thanks - I've never tried it to slow down and probably won't now!

I'll use it when no one is behind me.
Highway exits so I don't have to figure out how to toe the max regen line, until at speed I know I can keep the brake regen going just right.

Used it in Ozarks a few times on the winding roads with quick corner slowdowns - again no one behind me.
Then tried Eco mode - close but not enough for 15-20 mph quick drops.

Down hills - usually the hybrid Grade Assist works just fine since not towing - but also no brake lights. But I've seen plenty of non-hybrid cars that perhaps is doing it automatically or driver went to lower gear to maintain speed - and no brake lights. So...
