Brakes maintenance is it a RIP-OFF?

As many others have pointed out - do you feel (grinding, rubbing, warping) or hear (squealing, squeaking) that would indicate the brakes need service?

The only brake maintenance I would pay for is flushing the brake lines. Otherwise brakes are easily serviceable.

Just FYI, with a vacuum bleeder like this (it's what I use), brake fluid changes are also quick & easy. I do all my vehicles every 2 years, regardless of miles.

Just always fear leaving an air bubble in the line. Not knowing how/having the confidence to flush the lines and bleed them is a major weak spot for me.

Pad wear is pretty easy to check yourself, but IMHO the DOT4 fluid should be flushed every 3 years or so to keep corrosion under control. On a "normal" car, this is pretty straightforward (keep the reservoir full to avoid getting air in the system), even with ABS. The hybrid system is a lot more complex, but may allow the same approach. The down side to all this is that the official brake bleeding procedure in the service manual requires a high-end or Ford proprietary scan tool to command a bleed cycle. No DIY-type has that equipment at home, so they have you where they want you.

That's the beauty of a vacuum bleeder......as long as the reservoir is topped up as you go, it's really goof-proof.

I start off by sucking out the reservoir just to the point of NOT going below the line connections, then refill with fresh fluid, and start bleeding at the brake farthest away from the booster. Work your way to the closest bleeder to finish, spending about 2-3 minutes at each bleeder, topping off as you go. Plan on using a full quart of fluid per vehicle.

Sounds like an enormous rip off!!!!!!! What the hell is brake maintenance anyway? Inspection maybe. You look at the condition of the pads, the rotors, are the calipers moving freely so that one pad doesn't drag. Are the brake lines in good condition, no damage from objects coming off the road. Maybe after 2-3 years you change the fluid because brake fluid absorbs moisture from the air. Personally, I never go to the dealer for anything except recall and warranty work. I don't trust them at all!

Nobody asking what the maitenence is? Is it pad replacement? Or are they just going to inspect them and tell you they are fine at 34k?

You should really just invest in the tools needed to inspect them yourself and simply feeling the rotors for grooves is one of the cheapest tools you can buy... because it's already on your body.

Off-topic but I have a Honda motorcycle with "linked brakes" (hand lever pushes some pistons in both the front calipers and some in the rear, and the foot pedal pushes some other rear pistons and some others in the front) and ABS... There are 11 fittings to bleed. Eleven.

I think the GWs have linked brakes, or maybe they used to, but mine is a 2007 VFR800.

You probably figured this already, but there is a certain order that the 11 fitting need to be bled, of course...

My Maverick has 34,000 kilometers on it, and my Ford dealer quoted me $210 CAD for a brake maintenance service. They tell me it's a routine maintenance appointment for its current mileage.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Do you think this is overpriced, or do you think it's a reasonable deal? Or is it a cash trap?

At 18000 miles the dealer sent me a letter stating my 2022 hybrid needs brake linings. I took the truck back 3 times complaining about the grabby brakes. I never needed to use the brakes going downhill. They fixed the grabby brakes by accident. They updated and that fixed it. I now have 20000 miles on the truck but I will wait until I take it for our state inspection and have them check them. The service department does half ass work. I was told I need to break the brakes in. That's exactly what the guy told me. I am a female. I love my truck. I am afraid to take it in for the recalls.

I will depend on what is included in the package, one or two axles. Also what type of driving, daily commute on potentially heavily salted roads. When I was working, it was not uncommon to see ab 1/8 inch of crusty dried on salt spray on the sides door handles after my 50km commute, who knows how much on the underside components of the truck.
Note: I"m in ONtario Canada. CANADIAN pricing.
My dealer offers The Works, for $132, which among oil, filter and more includes a brake inspection with the report including measurements of brake pad wear etc.
For comparison, the local stand a lone drive through oil changers charge $90-100 for just the oil filter change, even more for synthetic or semi synthetic.

Brake maintenance service, If that $210 is for taking the calipers apart, cleaning dirt and potential corrosion, lubricating moving sliding parts for all 4 wheels, I say that it is a good deal.
I am seriously consider that type of service, especially on the hybrid when the hydraulic, calipers etc are not used as much as the ecoboost powered trucks.

I'd say unnecessary.at 21,000 miles and one (or two ) years old your breaks should be fine.i still have the original rear brakes on my 15 year old ram . fronts were replaced at 13 years old. And I this cost to replace the brakes? Or just make some kind of adjustment.
