Hi folks!

My Maverick has 34,000 kilometers on it, and my Ford dealer quoted me $210 CAD for a brake maintenance service. They tell me it's a routine maintenance appointment for its current mileage.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Do you think this is overpriced, or do you think it's a reasonable deal? Or is it a cash trap?

My hybrid has the same KM's and my front brakes were 10/10 and my rears were 8/10. I know your ecoboost is gonna be different but I can't imagine it to need anything already

to make a point from the other side...to be fair...we have no idea your driving habits. If lets say you "ride the brakes" or drive in a way that eats through brakes, I would say it COULD be possible that you need brake service done....but I am leaning towards highly UNLIKELY that the service is needed. Unless somehow, someway, its to honor some sort of warranty that they may have given you on the vehicle or something...but again... I am leaning towards unlikely the vehicle needs it and maybe just a general X-mileage has passed... suggestion.

Hi folks!

My Mav has 34 000 kilos and my Ford dealer asked me for a break maintenance for 210$ (CAD).

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Is this a ripoff or should be a good thing to do?
I don't know if things are different where you are, but dealers _usually_ do an inspection and provide feedback on where your brake wear/condition is at.

How do they feel when you use them to stop?
Do the brakes stop the vehicle as they should without the pedal going all the way to the floor?
Do the brakes make noises when you apply them?
Do you feel any vibrations while applying brakes?

If you aren't having any apparent issues with your brakes, probably no need for maintenance.

If in doubt get second opinion from elssewhere.

Brakes are one of the easiest thing to do yourself. I've been driving for over two decades and have never paid anyone to do my brakes but will 100% pay someone to change my oil.

Depends on what exactly a brake maintenance service includes. You should always ask.
I would guess it's simply a visual inspection designed to generate a cash $$$$ generating brake job.
If it includes pulling and rotating the wheels, cleaning components, lubricating guide pins, an actual maintenance task, it's not too far into the weeds as dealership fees go.

Without knowing what exactly they are going to do, why would you agree to anything?

Sounds like a rip off on the surface.

Trap, put money in a jar, use it when you need brakes. You can flush any fluid any mileage, but what does your manual say for maintenance? 3 yrs minimum usually.

Fortunately our brakes (assuming the ecoboost is the same as the hybrid) have rubber bushes for the caliper guide pins to run in. Should make them less prone to seizing due to road deicer, which would be my only concern at that distance after winter driving.

Cheers.

Before the Maverick, I had a Nissan Rogue AWD. I got my brakes serviced way before 34k KMs (~20k miles) for both fluids and pads (on different appointments). But after service, I could see a huge difference (after each of them). I guess that would depend on your driving style. You should probably have a good idea based on your own driving habits. Also depends on the nature of the service. I would guess Quebec's service rates are similar to Ontario's at ~$150/hour, leaving you with about $60 of parts/probably just overpriced oil in this case.

Go to some places like Brakes Plus as they normally will check the brakes for free. If they need work I'd think anything major would be warranty covered, ie: calipers, etc. pads wouldn't be and unless the rotors are warped due to a manufacturer fault wouldn't be either. Ck with your warranty information and see if doing service like this would void parts of your warranty. For safety's sake I'd probably go ahead and do the maintenance at the dealership so my warranty would be intact. Don't be surprised though when they come back that something needs replaced. Breaks plus here you can get a lifetime brake job. It's not cheap, but probably about the cost of a one time brake job at the dealership. Good luck.

Brakes are one thing you really don't want to discover they're failing while you're driving.

Ask locally to find a reputable place that does brakes - most will do a free inspection to tell you how worn they are. Reputable places will tell you if you've got another 30k, or if you really need to service them now. Don't be afraid to ask for a second opinion, for a car's health or your own.

As someone else said, it's not just about the mileage, it's about how you drove over that mileage.
