I got a bill from my insurance company for additional premium to change my 2004 Chevrolet Colorado to the 2024 Ford Maverick. This is only for Bodily Injury Liability, Property Damage Liability and Accidental Death. The premium for these coverages increased 53% to insure the Maverick. On the other hand, they lowered the cost for these coverages on my Honda CR-V by 16%. Rates are based on the same coverage, same drivers, same annual mileage, and same address (crazy Florida).

Consider that my Maverick has safety features not available on the 2004 Colorado:
side-curtain airbags
knee airbag
tire pressure monitoring system
pre-collision assist with emergency braking
rear view camera
lane departure warning
lane-keeping aid
lane-centering
hill desent control

Are you guys driving your Mavericks so recklessly that you have super-increased the experience factors for wrecks and claims?

According to the CPI released today, auto insurance is up 20.6% year over year. I'm getting tired of saying it/hearing it, but....."it's the world we live in".

PS - my mortgage insurance premium doubled in a three year span with no claims.

Going from a 2006 Saturn Vue to my 2023 Maverick only increased my full coverage bill by $8/mo. Shop around or look into an umbrella policy. I got a lot more liability protection with the umbrella and my total monthly premiums went down! YMMV.

I switched last month from my 23 Pro-X Frontier to my 24 XL Mav and my insurance stayed the same.

Just last week I switched my auto insurance from Allstate to State Farm, and saved almost 60%. This after 50 years with Allstate. Shop around.

HRG
I do shop around, every year. This was the low rate in January this year, and they just lowered the Honda rate. It's the vehicle. Or, something's not kosher.

I haven't found that to be the case. As someone said earlier, shop around. Don't get stuck with one vendor.
Then something's not kosher?

Edit: I looked at other threads on insurance and found others are experiencing lower rates with the Maverick. Guess my insurance company is going to get a phone call. I'll use your name as a reference.:)

While my overall insurance costs for 4 vehicles and an RV are great, being old in Wyoming with no tickets/accidents...
My 2024 Maverick Lariat is just a hair over 50% MORE than my 2023 for the identical coverage.

I used the same agent for many years. He was more than happy to keep me with a higher priced company. When I started looking around I realized there were much better prices out there.

I’ve found anything that is hybrid or plug in gets luxury charges for insurance and registration, downright criminal what they charge.

only way to fight high insurance charges is to ban mandatory insurance. Not long ago When insurance was optional in this state it cost a third what it does now, when they made it mandatory it doubled in cost overnight.

My son left USAA for Progressive. Saved a bunch of money. USAA is great if you have a problem, but yes steep.

You went from a 20 year old 2004 Chevrolet Colorado to a brand new 2024 Maverick and you are wondering why the premium increased

Sadly, yes. I saw it about a year ago mentioned on a USAA subreddit that by 2024 all insurance rates were going to jump. I just wasn't expecting an olympic pole vault...
