Full size spare not same tires as ones on vehicle?

The full size spare means it is a full use tire.

You can carry full weight with it.
You can drive full speed with it.
You can drive as long as you want with it.

This is the benefit.

The smaller tires have load and speed and distance restrictions.

It does not look the same so you can't do a 5-way rotation is the downside.

Great thanks that was what I wanted to know because I know the donut spares are limited to how fast you can go and usually you can only drive a limited amount of miles on it. That's why I ordered the full size spare. Thanks again

I think it is dumb it does not match. In the "old days" you could do a 5 way rotation. Make your tires last 20% longer. And get use out of the spare.

But not anymore. But it's still an "upgrade" just not a 5th wheel.

Does anyone know if the spare wheel is the same as the one's on the truck I have been told the tire is a cheaper tire but have heard nothing about the wheel. Let me know thanks

Has anyone mounted a spare tire the same size as the tires on the car? I did and needed to modify some things under the bed to allow this tire and rim to fit.

I think one concern was available space under the bed. As noted it is a full size spare so no need to worry about the donut style limitations. Have to agree with everyone that Ford didn't do a good job calling it a full size spare when it's not a same size spare and they could of been more clear since the information is easily overlooked.

I am happy I paid extra for the full size spare even if not the same as the other tires. I will be even happier if I never need to use it.

I work for a company that manufactures power equipment, we do the same when it comes to these types of decisions. The full size spare tire choice (only being one for the full size option) revolves around several factors.
First, there are several tire sizes available for the Maverick.
225/65R 17 A/S BSW Tires
225/65 R17 A/T Tires
235/65R17 A/T Tires
225/60R18 A/S BSW Tires
Having to match the full size to all these different tire sizes and compounds is an extra step during procurement and cost calculations, and finally assembly. Keeping it to one is far easier to manage, and increases efficiency.

As some have mentioned before, by specing a lower cost tire, you....reduce cost, increase margin.
When you are buying tires from you supplier its easier to buy quantities based off of previous sales data. So if only 10% off Maverick buyers opt to have the full size, its easier to order one tire to fit that 10%. If you tried to match that 10% to the 4 different options up above the calculation on which to buy becomes far more difficult. You then throw bulk purchasing discounts out the window.

Then there the last thing.... You have to think like the Ford bean counter. It saves money!

It would be nice to have a full size spare tire that was the same as the tires on the truck, just not gonna happen in a world where economies of scale dominate mass manufacturing decisions.

I put my extra set of Bronco Sport wheels with Falken tires on mine and sold the BAP wheels it came with. I bought another matching Sport wheel and a new set of Falkens for the Mav. last month. When I replace the current Falkens this Spring I'll put one of the current tires on the matching wheel and use that as a spare. It should fit up there after bending the tabs out of the way.

I searched vehicles that have the same bolt circle diameter (108MM) and a center bore of 63MM as the Maverick. Ford Escape from 2018 and up have rims with those dimensions. I purchased a rim from a 2018 Escape from a local salvage yard and mounted a 225 65R17 tire on it. To get it under the Maverick I had to cut off a steel weldment located just forward of the spare. After that it fits neatly under the bed.

I'm not sure but I heard that that's suppose to pierce the tire and deflate it in case of a rear end crash. Others have also removed it to put in a full size spare.
