Don't have, and have NEVER had, any of that. I've made it 80 years so far, somehow managing to get thru each day without a toilet with AI. Don't have a bidet, either. I can manage to wipe my own ass.
Ditto here, even with my hands full I can drop the tailgate with no slam now. I was never worried about my 4 y.o. daughter. Installation looks like a pita too. Then you gotta buy the replacement tie down. You'll prolly need to replace TA 3 times over the years when the shock fails.

Easy pass on TA and associated products. 100% savings plus 5% interest.

lol, good chuckle on this one. My wife’s Tacoma has it and personally I don’t like it. The 67 F250 I use to have was a tank, including the tailgate and managed just fine. I miss that truck.

I can afford to buy all the bells and whistles now because I did not buy unnecessary geegaws and foofraws in the past.

Ah, but sometimes it's not all about us...it's about the others who use the tailgate, too. Do I need a tailgate dampener? No. Does my wife need to use my truck's tailgate sometimes? Yes. Do I want her to struggle with it? Also no. Is she worth $30? A 'yes' wouldn't begin to measure her worth to me.

Are tailgate assists really necessary on an aluminum tailgate? Really curious on why some people need these.
Weight has nothing to do with it, having the damper frees up time to do other things rather than holding the tailgate. I'm sure slamming it, besides being annoying to anyone around you, isn't good for the hinges.

Guys, isn't it clear? We're not manly enough if we use a tailgate assist. And we're dumb also. Forget about the fact that most trucks on the market have a dampened tailgate as a standard feature. How silly are we to waste our $30 on a product to enhance our personal user experience. Most of us haven't even suffered through 80 years of being tough and strong and manly yet. We're so entitled and weak because we can't lift a steel tailgate without the help of a damper.

Edit: I had assumed its aluminum, based on my Ranger being aluminum. Is it steel or aluminum? Funny thing, my Ranger tailgate isn't dampened but my glovebox is!
It may not be a necessity but I like it because you can release the tailgate after opening it and it won’t free fall to the fully open position. Also, it was super easy to install it.

I understand and agree. Just being facetious for everyone out there acting like they're better than everyone else because they can handle their tailgate without the use of an aid.

The real truth is some of us need that extra bottle opener for all the ladies we hang with in our Maverick.

Ummmm
It doesn’t help at all with the fact that you “can’t lift a steel tailgate”.

It has nothing to do with lifting the tailgate, and silly to pretend that we are weak or entitled for adding an accessory that we enjoy.

This is all about personal preference, not needs.

if you don’t want it because you have never had it before, think about the truck you are driving and tell me when you had anything like that before.

if you don’t like it, don’t buy it! I love the dampeners on my truck, but if you don’t want it on yours, don’t attempt to ridicule those of use who love having it.

It is PERSONAL OPINION. Don’t like it? Don’t get it!

umm me thinks you completely missed that his tongue was planted firmly in his cheek when he typed all of that...

Anyhow, I enjoy the tailgate dampner as well and don't feel the need to surrender my man card becuase of it. More importantly my wife really likes the slow and gentle to open feature and that gives me license to buy more 'of questionable value' accessories.
