I’ll make my case again for a PHEV Maverick. My RAV4 Prime is getting over 100 mpg (only reads to 100) because it will travel 46 to 48 miles on one charge with a 18.1 KWHr battery (it tells me that I am getting 3.0 to 3.1 miles per KWHr)

I want a Maverick to come with PHEV capability. To me, that is the practical approach. The electric infrastructure is going to have to be substantially enlarged before we should be “forced” to electric cars.

The systems that generate electricity that are built into the car are great and use energy that normally would go off into our environment into motive power.

I jumped on the BEV bandwagon when Ford came out with the MachE back in 21 despite my Wife’s protest due to her lack of confidence in the charging infrastructure. We loved the car but ended up selling it mainly because of some long road trips we were planning on doing in 23.

We ended up buying a PHEV Outlander which gets around 45 miles on a full charge which covers about 90% of our local driving. So basically we drive an EV most of the time except when we go on road trips a couple times a year!!

For our present needs a PHEV makes more sense and I still get that instant torque that I got addicted to with the MachE! ( Still cant call it a Mustang!! )

Also FWIW I don't trust an article that won't sight its source and has one sentence about a vehicle that wasn't even confirmed to be in the R&D phase by the manufacturer of said vehicle.
I would probably "cite" a source...just sayin'.

Pickups are all about payload! If an EV pickup had reasonable power and range, how much would the batteries weigh?

The reason they sold off their EVs was because of the costs associated with repairing body damage due to their rideshare agreement with Uber not because of mechanical maintenance costs.
So the FACT that their holding lots were full of EV's and the ICE models were all rented is to be ignored. MCO looked like a Tesla storage facility when I was there.

Agreed, the new auto market is collapsing and the wealthy are shopping downmarket into the $40000 and below area.

The EVs sitting on the lot are all expensive, just as Fords F150 sales are stagnant. Who could have ever foreseen that few people want to buy overpriced vehicles?

A Maverick PHEV would not be as expensive and could potentially be built for nearly the same $$$ as the hybrid.

If Maverick would have launched as a PHEV , I would already own one.

PHEVs can get by with a much smaller more efficient battery and typically cost much less than an oversized luxury EV.

Ford keeps making the same mistake in that they don’t build anything affordable, they did it during the bush era when fuel skyrocketed and paid dearly, now they are doing it again as the upscale consumers loose their buying power.

All-electric sales are down for most auto makers...glad we got a hybrid!
Not for those with affordable offerings.

They have to have something shiny to get in the news with new EVs.

Luckily for them, they can pivot fairly easily to a different plan when they already have such a wide gamut of powertrain options. I think that's part of what made the Maverick a success because it has something for everyone.

The other folks, like Rivian and Lucid, are just about dead in the water in my opinion. Poor demand, high costs.

Yep, I think the management at Rivian, Lucid, etc are in La La Land. From what I've seen, granted not a whole lot, it was like they were beating their chest, king of the world mine set. I image their real tune is a little different lately. I do hope they make it though, I think they've made some great efforts and contributions. My opinion maybe off base/unfair, but it's still just my opinion.

I think you need to do more reading on why Hertz sold off their EVs. I got diamond hands as much as the next guy but c'mon man......Hertz isn't exactly a shining example on how to run a company. They filed for Chapter 11 back in 2021 and were plagued with bad decisions long before that.

I have been flat towing this 2018 PHEV Fusion for two years now. I would change to a PHEV Maverick if they were available.
Otherwise, no to a regular hybrid.
