I would suggest just using the existing wiring with the 12 volt plug that came with your truck. I added a marine grade accessory switch panel with the 12 volt cigarette style Outlet and bought a 400 w power inverter from Walmart to plug into it to get a120 volt Outlet. That same rain panel has three switches to it one of which is going to my bed lights and one of which is going to the 12 volt Outlet, and one spare for future. The 400 watt power inverter from Walmart fits in the opposite cubby under the false floor so no one even knows it's there. Easy peasy!Getting ready to run a 12 gauge wire to the Drivers side cubby. Fires no smoke.12V@140A/0.80 efficiency = 175A@12V. For that, even welding cable to the battery is going to be insufficient. So, at room temp you need 2/0 cables, and assuming that you're going to need to derate it for peak summer 90F temps, you're going to need to use 3/0 cable, maybe from the electric company at your neighbourhood dropdown transformer or maybe a large pipewelding truck. That's just plain ridiculous.
FYI interesting read. If you have hybrid he is charging an almost 1kw LiFePo4 with 100+ amps. He replaced his stock battery but you could add one as additional....I will be Pushing it. I have already done a Test Run on a 2k inverter on the battery. It does handle it. I am doing it to power a 1/2 hp well pump that draws 7 AMPs so a conversion from DC to AC Should land at 20X7=140 AMP. This solely for if I ever need it to run that pump. I never intend to run the pump 24/7. The rest of the time it will be just a hookup Saw drills ect... In 2021 when the big snow storm hit Texas power was in short supply( I already have generators ). For now just trying b to run the wire to the bed chubby any Ideas??
Make sure you calculate the power draw vs the 175 amp capacity of the alternator. I mean, if it's a choice between no water or risking your electrical system I'd risk it too.
Honestly, for a limited use case I would just leave the inverter separate and manually attach it to the battery as needed.
I seriously looked at adding a bigger inverter to mine and came to the conclusion that I wouldn't use it often enough to make it worth hard wiring. The 400 watt outlet is enough for charging stuff or running a laptop but to power anything with some grunt it gets absurd.
In your use case I would just buy a generator. That's what I wound up doing. For the cost of a big enough inverter (particularly if you want a pure sine wave inverter) you are already halfway or more to a 2000 watt inverter generator if you look for them on sale.
Alternators are more expensive if you burn one out- a motorcraft (the only one available on rock auto right now) is like $450 with shipping.

Ok this isn't going to run full time. I have the equipment and want the option. When the grid is down I need well pump and it wont run 24/7. To clear up the battery to the inverter is only a 1.5 Ft Run ( working on making is shorter 1ft or below ) of 02 Doubled up welding leads. The setup to that point running the .5 HP well pump is already done and it works. That being said have anyone ran a 12gauge 14 or any other wire to a 110 plug to the driver side cubby panel cover in the bed. I have been in Solar and the Inverter world for 12 year. I am just having a issue fishing the wire to the bed that is where I need help. Any Advice any response is appreciated.
