Hello, not sure but saw this video and with the high demand for Maverick's, I thought I needed to share this information. The FOB if it has auto start and/or push or keyless ignition, be warned. This video at the very least explains the issue with these devices.

Yea it's no secret that fake fobs can be made and anything with a radio signal can be hacked. All it takes is the correct signal. It's really no different than it was back in the days "with slimjims" - it's just a new method. It's no different than someone's ability to hack into your phone, your wifi, your security camera's etc etc... if it sends out radio signals, it can be hacked.

If thieves wanted your vehicle, regardless of it being remote start or not, the question is motivation. How motivated are they and how capable are they of getting it? Never underestimate a criminal.

In the video he talks about organized crime being the "new" vehicle thefts... this has been going on for longer than the internet has been around. It's nothing new.

This guy is clueless. It's easy to disable without any aftermarket products. In his case Toyota even has a button combo to push to disable the feature when you lock the vehicle.
That maybe, but I'm not that computer or high tech savvy. So I was looking at the lariat or after delivery purchasing and installing Ford protection plus to get a remote start. Vinyl seats stopped me from the lariat trim but after watching this video and not being ignorant now having the knowledge, I'm passing on both and use the Ford pass to remote start. That is if I ever do.

Yes stealing cars probably been around since they starting making them. Though I also know that the most popular vehicles are the ones that get stolen the most. Even if they are just parting them out.

If you think the Ford pass connection cannot be intercepted and hacked, I have news for you. ;)
Your probably right the thing is the FOB is basically talking to the car 24/7. Unless it's a security breech, the chance of driving around checking for frequency on a FOB just increases the possibility substantially. That's my point reducing the risk, at least for me. That's also why I posted, if you or anyone has it, look for ways to reduce the risk. Just in case they were like me or the guy in the video finding out after the fact. Something about hindsight being better than foresight? Thought it was good to post, sorry you and a few others don't feel that way. It's definitely your option to do so.

I have a couple of Faraday pouches for my keys and was really beginning to think them unnecessary. After this video I wonder, they can be compromised from 300 feet? I live in a rural area however, it's only about 80 feet from my house to the road in front. Possibly, Ford is on top of this to some degree: why would you need two fobs to program a third otherwise? I noticed that even if I start the truck and put the fob back in the pouch, the truck won't shift out of park. If I put the fob in the pouch after entering the truck before starting I'll get a display message telling me no key detected and will not start. I think this problem will become more prevalent in the near future. At least Ford seems be to more aware of it than Hyundai was.
Edit: I initially got the pouches to help prevent the strain on an already stressed battery. The added security is a bonus.

The pouch seems like a good precaution for the fob. But what should be done to pause Fordpass? It is nice when I'm in the truck and it knows the data. But is it communicating with the truck all the time?

Any metal tin or even wrapped in tin foil works. Kept my spare FOB in my Bronco Sport with push button start. The spare FOB was hidden and wrapped in tin foil in a Altoids tin box. Don't have that problem with my XLT as there's no signal unless you press a button and still need the key in the ignation.

*Puts on tin foil hat (I have one tailored so it fits perfectly)

It's literally one of the most susceptible methods lol. "Organized crime" gets the data, sends out the VIN's to their locals soldiers, VIN's are public info and now they know exactly where to look. It's a great way to get all the info to make temporary key fob's and activate a vehicle in order to get it on their transports.

This is also why blurring key pictures exists. Info online can piece together someone's entire existence. People have made exact copies of keys off of pictures. Might seem crazy, but it takes 2 seconds to blur information. Every step helps in making it harder for someone to put together those pieces.

I get why the thread exists. I encourage you to take every precaution available to you. But none of this is new.
