Cornering especially. Even sport mode sometimes doesn't quite hold a gear when you're light on the throttle as you set up to exit a corner. It ends up shifting up and I'd love to keep it in gear throughout the turn.

Even in non spirited driving, I'll be able to granny shift and instantly select a gear if I need to pass or merge, and then shift up to cruise without having to change drive modes. Ive been driving in sport mode exclusively since I got the truck.

This is the first automatic vehicle I've owned and I was very accustomed to being in a specific gear while driving.

Thats exactly what I want! All my cars for the past 25 years have been manual 5 or 6 speed.

WOW! Your idea of a DIY installation is advanced engineering to me, especially when it comes to electronics.

Being a 68yo I was raised on points & plugs, condensers, distributor caps, lights and a radio being a vehicle's electronics, but I appreciate the effort and ingenuity of you folks enhancing a modern vehicle.

Man...am I old! 🤔
No kidding. Two months ago I wired upand plumbed a external fuel pump and auxillary control panel on my Comanche, and today I replaced a broken steering box and upgraded to a long travel track bar and steering setup that had to be modified a couple ways to fit. All that was easy, but this has got me head scratching. I think its just a fear of changing wiring on a vehicle with soooo much wiring lol.

Way to go OP! One day I may work this out, the one thing the Maverick is totally missing is manual shift control.

When my kids grow up (10 years later maybe) and I start to have more free time, I may have to come back here with 50+ questions, lol. Assuming I still have a maverick by then.

Do you have any feedback on what gear your in?

1697394822877.png

Now i will be adding the Ford Maverick 2022 XL since thats the one i drive . Mine already has Cruse Control added and other switches. Notice this one on the PCM Shows it already comes with 2 wires for the up shift and down shift on XL model its false the diagram i had to add all 3 wires.

PCM Connector from 2022 Ford Maverick shows pin 5 and pin 6 from pcm having shifter up and down . Good sign """

1697396966220.png

Now i will add process . and pictures Start By removing Negative Battery Terminal.

And remove Air bag From steering wheel.

1701543509646.webp

you got to do both sides. once you removed be carful disconnecting the 2 air bags to clockspring connectors . use a pocket screw driver or Pick . just carefully pull clip and press on the sides with your fingers and pull up. first your going to disconnect the white connector of the horn.

1701543781094.webp

once you remove the air bag you should put the wheel straight, remove clockspring connector on top and remove the 24mm bolt so you can remove steering wheel from the steering column.
1701545209042.png

1701543897384.webp

Once you remove the steering wheel you should left like this.
1701544065499.webp

Remove bezel from steering Column 2 bolts on the bottom. be gentle with this as this interiors on the mavericks gets scratch easily you know the drill with mavericks interiors.

1701544201234.webp

Unplug all connectors on Steering Control Module and remove the steering control module 4 bolts you will see they are big black bolts torques t30 or t27 dont remember right now lol apologies. when pulling out be carefully as on the back they have notches that holds it in place.

1701544573288.webp

Once you removed it install the new one that you bought for the conversion and follow the same order but before you install the bezel install the 3 pins and make the wire harness for paddle shifters.

part numbers for connector and wiring its on top.

1701544736370.webp

thats how it should look like when install with ford oem terminals .

1701545032257.png

PIN 5 = upshift / PIN 6 = Down shift / PIN 7 = Signal Return needed """

1701545259707.webp

Make A Hole on the rubber by the firewall your going to see a big plugged and pass the wires true it make sure to but insulation on the wires to protect from ambient and rotten.

1701545442510.webp

1701545540943.webp

dont know if you can see the wireloom pass true and the harness i made.

1701545609834.webp

I pull the wires next to the battery and used the whole true to pass the harness to the fender well area . clean and secure cant even find it in the picture. lol
Remove front Driver side wheel and fender liner. and remove PCM dust cover to get access to connector.

1701545749303.webp

remove first pcm connector the first one to the right. remove the tape cut a little bit of the insulation from factory . With care always. remove the top of the connector shield and bottom white pin protector all with care. maximun care when removing or installing terminals. as you can see i added the 3 cables alreay on the connector was kind of on a rush.

heres wiring on terminals your adding to this connector mine did not come with them but on the ford wiring it says some come with up shift and downshift terminals already on the connector be aware.

I miss my tiptronic shifter in the Kia but love the Mav all the same. With paddle shifters or tiptronic, this truck would be perfect. Make it upgradable for us without but who want in on it.
I use the "L" button, but it is still iffy when trying to corner. While we are at it... lose the damn electric pkg brk and give me an lever parking brake to drift in the corners during snowfalls... then perfection has been obtained.
