Hi all, I picked my my new hybrid Maverick on Thursday (love it) and of course on Friday something jumped up and hit me as and put this little ding in the passenger rear door. I heard it when it happened, sounded like a clunk. Maybe a stick or a pebble.
There’s no chipping in the paint and is about the size of a dime. Think a pointless dent repair person can get it out? I took it to a place yesterday and they gave me a quote of $188 which is fine and they assured me it’d be as good as new but it wasn’t the actual tech telling me that just the shop owner (high end detailing place in peach tree city).
I know it shouldn’t bother me but considering when it happened I’d only owned it for about 15 hours it does. Sorry for the picture quality the paint is really reflective and it’s raining. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Can't tell from picture, but if the area behind the dent is easily accessible, I think that estimate is at least twice as high as it should be. Remember Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) technicians can sometimes access an area by drilling and plugging a small hole in a concealed area of the body.

Bummer. good luck. see if you can get another quote, in my area there are mobile repair guys who will come out and save you a trip. you can send them the picture and get a quote. As a new owner myself I am dreading that first scratch or ding.

I had a dent about the size of a golf ball, maybe 1/4” deep on the curved portion of the rear bumper. Big enough to bother me. I had a dent doctor do the repair and it looked brand new. They removed the taillight so they could work behind the dent. Took about an hour and $250. I used them before on a old Ford Ranger with great results as well. If you know of a body shop you can ask them for recommendations of dent doctors in your area. That’s how I found mine.

It all depends on the actual person doing the PDR. I do think they can make it look like it never happened, especially if there is no scratch or paint chip. PDR has come a long way. I would go for it but let them know that this a brand new truck and you want expert work before you pay.

I've seen some PDR videos on YouTube and the results are amazing.

Just ensure the tech is competent, and I agree, you'll never know that the dent was even ever there. I use a paintless dent repair guy who a respected body shop recommended to me some years ago. In my area, Tampa Bay, $188 is a reasonable price for good work.

My Ford F250 got dented up in a hail storm. Top and hood, part of fenders. Dent repair guy did great job with his “tool cache” of specialty dent fixing tools. Had to remove front windshield to snake tool under the top part. Windshield cracked, the shop replaced it.

Hood was replaced.

Opinions vary, but if the paint isn't

Not sure if you meant "pointless" or that was autocorrect. Either way, it's a very aptly worded. Opinions will vary, but I'm in the boat that it is infact a "pointless" repair. If it's not chipped through the paint then it's merely about looks vs preventing rust / worsening damage. You seem to already be on that side of the fence by saying "I know it shouldn't bother me".

The question is ... Is not looking at that dent worth $188 to you?

Along with other questions like...
- How long until the next one and another $188 or more?
- Are you going to continually pay for all dings and is that worth it to you? If you don't will you look back and think this one was wasted $$$?
- Do you plan to sell soon and will it affect the value? If so, do you just wait and get a bulk rate on multiple dings prior to sale?
- Are you going to keep this thing so long it ultimately won't matter? Aka too many dings to chase after and resale value will be low regardless of condition.

Sounds a little like you're in the "don't bother" bucket and might rather spend the $ on accessories or otherwise. Just hitting you a little hard because it was so soon after a big purchase and you hadn't had time to bask in the shininess. It's still plenty shiney, most won't notice that dent or care much if they do.

If it's not a scratch and just a dimple, many find dimples to show character. Particularly on the ass end 😉

I've had a zillion dings repaired over the years. Your estimate is being marked up by the detail shop. Easy 80 dollar ding rub out. Call them direct. Oh, and the guys who say 'don't bother', they have a different aesthetic level. Hate dings.

I am a PDR tech of 25 yrs. $150 would be a good quote for that. It is an easy fix for experienced tech.

I think OP referred to the repair being pointless, maybe because it's a truck?

If you are willing to take a chance you can always pull the plastic door panel off and genitally tap it back to shape with a rubber mallet from the inside, or use a strong suction cup form the outside, like the pros, to get it back to shape.

One week after obtaining by 2023 hybrid lariat Area 51 Maverick, I had a parking lot accident. Both of our faults. Back bumper and right corner panel dented. Took to a regular repair shop and quoted $2800 to repair. Found a paintless dent repair shop. Charged me $700 and they did a great job. The bumper which now show a slight scuff mark is the only sign of the accident. After waiting a year for my truck I was extremely upset by the accident but could not be more happy with the dent less repair.
good luck

My Bronco Sport got caught in a hail storm in Ohio this past Summer. Cracked windshield and around 38 dents in the roof, hood, side panels, and hatch. Some almost as big as a golf ball. The paintless dent repair company got every single one out and you couldn't tell they were ever there. Six thousand bucks but no paint needed. Thank you State Farm for picking up the tab.
