Has anyone experienced uneven brake wear on the factory brakes? Rear worn to half the life of the brake pads according to the tire place I got my winters at. I am only at 7k km, so not sure what's going on here. Would diagnosis be covered by warranty?

Should be minimal wear on the rear, mine on my Ranger have gone over 100k with my style of brake use. I have heard that in recent years brake bias has been shifted more to the rear, but the tire shop must have made an incorrect observation. You should have plenty of time to have a more thorough inspection as part of routine maintenance.

Yeah I'll just get a micrometer or something and do one myself when I change the oil. Thanks guys I thought it was suspicious.

But IF I come to the same conclusion will diagnosis be free at the dealer under warranty?

Rears on new cars wear first due to stability and traction control. 1/2 worn at 7,000 miles seems excessive.

That's a good question. If they actually find a problem, it should be covered. You would probably be committed to the diagnosis fee first.

Tire places are for tires, don't listen to them for the rest. I got the same story on my last car from a tire place. When I had it checked the next service I went in for at the dealer, they told me the brakes were good for a long while yet.

I once had a Ford dealer tell me all my brake pads on my F550 were at 2mm. They were all over 10MM. They were just done a couple months before.

LOL, no they do not.

Did the OP's tire shop tell you that?

7,000 KM, about 4,350 miles.
