Agreed. Check them yourself or take it to a mechanic you trust. Unless you were racing your Maverick hard on a track, the brakes should have minimal wear after 7k.
That's a good question. If they actually find a problem, it should be covered. You would probably be committed to the diagnosis fee first.
Tire places are for tires, don't listen to them for the rest. I got the same story on my last car from a tire place. When I had it checked the next service I went in for at the dealer, they told me the brakes were good for a long while yet.
