I have a Maverick Hybrid on order. However, I'm starting to second guess it. My goal is to buy this truck and be able to have it last a long time and run it into the ground. What options would you select to do that? Hybrid vs FWD vs AWD vs FX vs Tremor... etc

Hybrid with fewest options.

But we got Hybrid Lariat. Loving it. Wife wishes we had ordered the sunroof, but we had just paid dealership to clean out our leaking sunroof on Odyssey before we verified the 22-23 transition....

Depends on what you plan to do with it. If mainly local driving and little towing, the hybrid is the better value. If you do mainly rural/off-road driving, then the AWD will make more sense.

That said, if you keep it maintained and the fluids clean, it'll outlast you.

I work in construction. I have to have a truck for work. So the Maverick hits the minimum requirements for me. I'm in a dust bowl 90% of the time. I'm not really towing that much or doing much than the occasional off roading on site.

It doesn't really matter, most vehicles are built pretty well these days and as long as you maintain them they should last as long as you want them to.

Ford has been using their hybrid design for over a decade now, it's a solid platform.

My wife and I both have two 8 year old Ford Hybrids, they have been the most mechanically reliable cars we have had. The paint not so much.

FWD EB. It's what most of the fleets are ordering. Its what's going to be most popular in the junkyards of the future for parts availability.

Eventually you run into a Ship of Theseus scenario though.

EXACTLY!!!! For a hundred years, auto experts have agreed that the most important maintenance action on a vehicle is to CHANGE THE OIL & FILTER REGULARLY, AS DIRECTED BY THE MANUFACTURER. In longevity terms, mods don't mean as much as maintenance: fluid changes, lube points, tire pressure/rotation, wheel alignment/balance, care of paint, yada yada yada. Good luck - I'm with you: I want this Maverick to last.
P.S. Cup holders.

Hybrid is not a choice if you live rural and need AWD. FX/Tremor is a personal choice but if you plan on a lot of towing then Tremor has limitations. I have a Tremor and like it better every time I drive it and while it will never be "off road" I like the options it gives me and with everyday rural driving its giving me a steady 28 MPG.

My go-to in all car purchases is to always buy the base model. Less stuff to go wrong.

Having said that, if I had known my driving needs were going to include pulling a trailer once a month or so, I would have ordered the AWD instead.

I think it all depends on what you are going to do with it.

It depends on what you need, What's inportant to me, may not be to you. Options are there to personalize it for you. Don't buy a truck with 4x4 if you need it, and visa versa. MPG are always less with a 4x4 vehicle, and your tires will wear faster then with a 2x4 truck.

The one and only option I was going to treat myself to was the sunroof but by the time I got an order in they weren’t offering the sunroof on the trim level I was getting 🤦🏻‍♂️
I’ll live I guess 🤷🏻‍♂️

I have the Hybrid XLT. The reason I decided on the hybrid is because the 2.0 has had a past with head gasket failure. This is due to the cylinder walls are too close together with no passage for coolant between cylinder walls. The gasket area is very narrow between cylinders. And to top it off they increase pressure with a turbo. Keep your choice with minimum options. I ordered with trailer hitch, sliding rear window, full size?? spare, and spray in bed liner. I am extremely happy with the hybrid. Plenty of power and great gas mileage.

The adage "Less is more" applies here. The more basic, the less to go wrong. Only get AWD and other options if you really need (or want) them. I vote for XL FWD Ecoboost, as you'lll surely have to replace the hybrid's battery in 10 years or so if you plan to keep it long term.
