This is different / separate / in addition to the grabby brakes that occur usually at 3 mph when regen gives up and brake pads hit the rotors rather harshly.

You could have both updated during the same visit, and hopefully they do it for you, but asking to verify (that they will do both) is also a good idea.
They have a SOP to do the bare minimum usually.

@GPSMan it's hard to describe. I was trying to sense it today... it was not really a studderStudderStudderStudder.

It was more like, sometimes when you're slowing down the break pedal is electrically consistent, completely linear.
Other times it's not consistent, it's not linear and and the last little bit of breaking slowly to a stop is a sudden abrupt break application where you were very smoothly breaking before.

I'm guessing the truck is not hitting a smooth handoff from electric regeneration to pad on rotor.

Does this issue show up on ford pass as an issue recall?
NO. It is not a recall, it is a service bulletin, if a customer has this concern, this is what Ford techs are directed to perform first when a customer has this complaint. Any properly trained tech knows the repair chart flow: verify concern, if necessary a visual inspection and retrieve DTC's if applicable,, then check for service messages or service bulletins that pertain to the customers concern and perform them first, then re-evaluate.

So.... How do I go about checking if this has been completed? How do I go about getting this done? This will not be completed via an update, right?

Issue: Some 2022-2023 Maverick vehicles built on or before 11-Apr-2023 and equipped with a 2.5L full hybrid electric vehicle (FHEV) powertrain may exhibit a shudder or vibration when the vehicle is braking at 15 mph (24 km/h) or below, when the gas engine shuts down and the vehicle is operating in electric mode only. This may be due to the software in the powertrain control module (PCM). To correct this condition, follow the Service Procedure to reprogram various modules starting with the PCM.
Action: Follow the Service Procedure to correct this condition on vehicles that meet all the following criteria:

My hybrid was built in May and I’ve never once felt a brake shutter. So maybe this one will work for the rest of you.

The last time I had my Maverick in for the side air bag recall, I mentioned about the braking issue at low speeds and they did the update. Presto no grabO!! 😆 Shadow Unicorn is rolling smooth again!

Hi there. Can you send us a DM with your VIN and dealership info? I can look into this for you.

My truck had the engine shuddering, grabby brakes, and infotainment issues. My local dealer picked it up mid-June and had it for two days. They could not find any mechanical issues, but they did update/reset the PCM software. I was skeptical and annoyed that was all they could/would do.

It has been nearly six weeks now and the shuddering and braking issue has not returned.

If you experience any shuddering, take the time to get this done. Insist they do it and bring a printed version of the TSB so they are informed. My truck was in the shop BEFORE this TSB but because my tech understood the issue, he got me straight. He said that on my first oil change they can update it again if needed. I will insist they do this even if I'm not seeing the issue again.

Unfortunately, the infotainment system is still crap. Hopefully one day Ford sends out a significant update for that.

Dumb question, but if this one supersedes TSB 23-2209, what is this TSB's number (or is it just an update to the language and the number will stay the same)? I'm about to schedule for the airbag recall and get the brake software updated, and want to be able to tell them exactly which one I need. Also, does anyone know the TSB number for the grabby brake update?

I've noticed this and mentioned it to my dealer. Of course, they found nothing wrong! Nice that Ford finally owned this problem. I'll make sure the dealer corrects the problem next time I get an oil change.

If you asked me yes or do, do I have shuddering brakes... I would say yes.

I rarely notice it. A lot of country roads and working 3x12hr shifts I'm driving to work before everyone else & driving home after everyone else. I never drive in stop/go traffic. Sometimes slowly breaking to a red light or stop the brakes are not smooth... they're dut dut dut dut dut, I don't know how to describe it... grabby.

I noticed it really bad only one time. I had to tow a disabled vehicle (transmission went out) off the road into a parking lot & in tow mode I had one moment the brakes were insanely difficult to operate. It felt very unsafe and dangerous trying to go slow and be careful but when I used the brakes the brakes were slamming on//off and jerked the Maverick. Not a smooth operation.
I’m wondering if it’s an antilock braking system malfunction of some sort. Perhaps some kind of system compensation error.
