TSB 23-2209 - hybrid shudder

I purchased and took delivery of my MY23 Maverick Hybrid on 5/9

Drove it for 2 weeks no issues. Around 800 miles I started to notice the engine vibrations aka on here as the shudder. Took it to my local Ford service Dept and they took it for a drive. Noticed it and said it was normal. At first it really wasn’t terrible but sometimes it was bad then it would usually be nominal.

Well since about 1200 miles it progressively got worse. I now have 2400 miles on it. Had a buddy of mine who works for ford take it for a drive. Told me that he doesn’t feel anything usually.

I saw on here that Ford posted on one of the shudder issue pages that there was a software update - the TSB mentioned above.

I took it to the dealer today. They felt the shudder and did the update. The service advisor told me they reset a few modules as well and now the car acts normal after another road test.

Was excited to pick it up to say the least.

I picked it up and….

Well 20 mins of driving and I can say it didn’t do it once. In fact I think that in eco mode it regens harder than it did before. I could be wrong but it did feel different. So far so good. I’ll report back in a week if anything changes.

If you asked me yes or do, do I have shuddering brakes... I would say yes.

I rarely notice it. A lot of country roads and working 3x12hr shifts I'm driving to work before everyone else & driving home after everyone else. I never drive in stop/go traffic. Sometimes slowly breaking to a red light or stop the brakes are not smooth... they're dut dut dut dut dut, I don't know how to describe it... grabby.

I noticed it really bad only one time. I had to tow a disabled vehicle (transmission went out) off the road into a parking lot & in tow mode I had one moment the brakes were insanely difficult to operate. It felt very unsafe and dangerous trying to go slow and be careful but when I used the brakes the brakes were slamming on//off and jerked the Maverick. Not a smooth operation.

I think I need to get this done. is TSB 23-2209 the latest one to ask for or is there some newer one? Just because I see a post saying: "This article supersedes TSB 23-2209 to update the Issue "

I didn’t know there was an updated TSB until now but I can tell you that it has really improved in the 5 days since I had it done. Couldn’t hurt to have your dealer do it

One week since the TSB update. No real issues at all. It drives 1000x better. It does have its moments when I think it wants to shudder but ultimately doesn’t. I have felt it once since the update, over the weekend, but it was barely noticeable. Fingers crossed I don’t have to worry about it anymore. When I bring the truck in for service I will ask them to update the module to the latest update if necessary.

I guess for those of us that have not experienced the shutter either because they updated the software before shipping the Maverick or it just hasn’t happened yet. I hope for our sake they updated the software before we took ownership. Thanks for the update.

I would assume if you haven’t felt it yet you will likely not experience it. If you do at least you know there is a fix.

Updated TSB was issued just days after you made this post (8/3/2023). My truck is affected - December 2022 build.

New TSB 23-2248. I am getting both this and 23E07 emissions recall done next week. Both software updates. Dealer was aware of the recall, but had to list a specific "customer states" complaint for the TSB. Customer stated that the "powertrain exhibited a shudder or vibration when the gas engine shuts down when braking under 15MPH"
