Got my XL hybrid in late February, I just didn't want to pay for snows so late in the winter, it did fine, but snow tires are a huge help with Maine winters lol. My wife has dunlops for winter for her Honda fit, (IDR the model name) the difference between them and the usual arctic claws we'd always run are night and day, I'm thinking about the same for my Mav. I've also heard great things about Michelin xice, but I've never run them myself. I do go studless, but there's always 5-6 times per winter I end up wishing for studs lol. I know late summers a weird time to be talking snow tires, but hey, maybe the topic will help those of us getting snows this winter?

Put Nokina WRG4 all weather tires on my 22 last winter, and run them all year. No problem with dry snow, even on roads that had not been plowed (14 inches in one case). Wet snow? Not sure. Steep hills? One that had been plowed and still covered with compact snow, no problem. Freezing rain? Nope, I don't go out in in. Had CC2 on my last vehicle, very similar performance.

For someone who doesn't have to go out in the worst part of a storm I find all weather tires fine. If you do, get full snow tires. Ice all winter? Get studs.

Why just 2wd? lol

I'll likely give the Michelin Cross Climate 2's a shot.

I have been running (on other vehicles) Bridgestone Blizzaks, Studless Snow and Ice tires and they are amazing. Not planning on doing snow in the Maverick since we have an AWD CR-V LX for that. Before that car a Subaru Forester got us through all Pennsylvania driving except at the top of my driveway, which the township neatly plows shut every time.

Nothing.
Not enough snow packed roads during the year to warrant them here in Denver. Just wearing them out on dry roads most of the time and lowering MPG.

All seasons work just fine. If it’s too deep and slick for those, it’s probably not important enough to go out for.

Edit:
This post got me to thinking.

I just ordered some small traction pads and some ISSE Snow Socks in case I do get stuck or find myself needing to go through the Eisenhower Tunnel during chain law times. (CDOT approved!)

Plenty of room in the bed for a tote filled with that stuff and a shovel!

Maine here. I ran run-of-the-mill studded tires I bought from my dealer. Never had a problem. I don’t remember even spinning them. Yes, they were noisy.

2wd is for us that are skilled end enough drivers to deal without it and have realize we don't need the added complexity and weight of an Awd system.
Better skilled at driving than proofreading I hope!

Bought a set of Motiv 431 Elicit (dual drilled) wheels and had Michelin X Ice mounted. Used then for a December drive to Calgary from Seattle ... they worked well on our MB GLK 4matic which we took for that trip ... based on my calculations, they should now also fit the Maverick for winter use here in town ... (currently the Maverick has 4 Autosocks stowed under the rear seat in the event of an unforeseen snow storm)

Good advice.
