If you like an SUV more than a truck, or tow a larger trailer 4,000-5,000# go Santa Cruz. If you like a truck more than an SUV and rarely tow, or just tow under 4,000# go Maverick.

I wouldn't trade my Maverick for a Santa Cruz.

That being said I am also in my 3rd Kia SUV.
You can't beat the Kia/Hyundai warranty and quality.
Since 2008 I have only had one warranty repair. A faulty sun visor that wouldn't stay up.

But there is that whole Kia/Hyundai theft thing. You couldn't pay me to drive one. Major targets in any city.

Personally I find the Santa Cruz ugly but beauty is in the eye of the beholder, right?

I won't try to talk you out of it- but the numbers sold are way way less than Mavericks. My bet is they'll be like Subaru Bajas eventually- keep a pretty high resale value after most have gotten rid of theirs.

You really need to test drive to see and feel the significant differences. Spend the day test driving each and then see what you think. The 23 SCs are discounted below msrp in many places ( if you can find one ) as the 24s are rolling in now.

I do second the test drive plan. The Santa Cruz looks terrible in pictures but out in the world it looks like a sporty beefy techy truck thing. In person the Maverick looks like a nice truck. Tremor models look especially nice. I personally am into Fords reliability over most other brands. I dont care for added tech or features. I just want good drivetrains, good sets, and a solid look. And a Blue Oval(even though they blacked out the one on my Tremor).

Resale value of cruz such as based one is terrible . Not so for the maverick. The digital cluster they have is ugly . The front is ugly . If you want Subaru brat updated I guess this is the truck for you .

If you like being in limp mode due to a overheated transmission (Turbo Version) get the S C

If you want it, buy it. If you don't want it, don't buy it.

No one's here to talk you out of anything.

I'm going to step on a land mine here by talking SC. Let me preface this by saying I had a '22 Mav FE Hybrid which I sold quite frankly for the $$. I liked it, great MPG. I also have '23 Bronco WildTrak which I love and I've had a few Fords in my life, also have a '24 Mav Hybrid on order. I started looking around for another around town vehicle when I ran across the SC. Yes the discounts drew me in, they are using them to clear out the left over '23's which there really aren't that many to be found. I took it out for a test drive and was completely blown away. I bought the SEL Premium which comes with the 2.5L turbo. This thing is fast, handles really well and is very quiet to drive. Much more like the SUV it's based on, the Tucson. It has self leveling shocks on the rear and as many of you know it has a larger towing and payload capacity. Let's not forget the Hyundai warranty. The SC has an immobiliser for those wondering and the problems with the DCT in '22 seem to have been addressed but I would agree the DCT is probably the weakest part of the SC turbo, the non-turbo gets a bullet proof 8-speed. The turbo is fun to drive and the DCT really is a fast smooth shifting transmission, something you find in race cars more that trucks. I'm covered for 10 years and lord knows I never keep a car that long.

The are quite a few ex-Mav owners in the SC forum. I think it's really a matter of what you are looking for in a small PU. The Mav will outsell the SC by miles partly because the Mav looks more like a traditional PU, it's can be had for cheaper at least the base model, and or course the hybrid. It's funny because if you are looking for a more "American" truck the SC is built in Montgomery, Alabama with 55% US and CA parts content and the Mav is build in Mexico with 26% US and CA parts content.

I guess the point that made me write this was most people that dismiss the SC have never driven one, sure you might not like the looks and that's fair but don't dismiss the entire package because of that.

Like I said I have a '24 Mav on order, one day it might be built and then I'll have to face the question do I want to sell the SC for the Mav or keep it.
