Ford does not require a deposit. The dealer just lied to you. I would not use this dealer. It is fully within the dealers right to require a deposit. Shoot they could require full payment upfront if they wanted. They shouldn’t lie though and say Ford requires it.

I gave Gerald Jones Ford $1,000 on July 26, 2021 for catcus gray XLT+. Still waiting on VIN #.
Well, I happily picked my sweet Mav up on Tuesday--only 23 month wait. Longest wait my salesperson has seen.

I would call BS on that communication. It was $100 non-refundable from Granger for 24 and with Leif Johnson in Austin just had to put down 500 last year but it was fully refundable. No additional deposit requests for rolling over my 23 Hybrid.

$0 to $1,000 is customary, I put down $500.

I ended up finally getting my truck a month ago, and I was able to get them to refund the deposit. They tried sneaking in some other stuff, and overall the experience felt shady, will never buy from them or recommend them again.

I’m not sure What is wrong with people on this forum, and deposits. You were buying a tens of thousands of dollar truck, what is wrong with giving $500-$1000 to show intent to purchase when it arrives. If you walk away, because you don’t have any skin in the game, you were taking an allocation and a build away from a customer who does want that vehicle.

They are now stuck with your specifications I cannot order their specifications
"What is wrong with people on this forum, and deposits"
Let me count the ways:
  1. Your giving your dealer a $1000 interest free loan for, in my case, 19 months.
  2. So far I haven't read about a dealer being stuck with a Maverick. The opposite is true. Dealers have sold vehicles out from under orders to someone else who agreed to pay more.
  3. If the deposit is refundable, you don't really have any "skin in the game".
  4. If the dealer is telling you that the deposit is "required by Ford", you are already starting out your relationship with a lying dealer. Are you expecting better treatment down the road?
I received my 2023:
  • No deposit required
  • no market price increase
  • No dealer required accessories or options
  • no hard sell on the extended warranty.
There are good dealers out there. Find one now before you order.

Don't wait until you are ready to take delivery to find out you have a problem. Your options are pretty much limited to smiling while he sticks it to you or walking away from the vehicle you have been waiting a wile for with limited options find another one.

Some dealers take a deposit on limited allocation vehicles to make sure you are serious and not ordering from several dealers to try to get one sooner. Good dealers want to sell to real customers.

Most of the posts show that dealers are requesting "refundable deposits" Therefore there is nothing to prevent someone from ordering from different dealers except for having to come up with the deposits in advance.

But what I find most offensive is the dealers that tell you that it is a Ford requirement.

These are the same dealers that on deliver day will tell you that ceramic coating, undercoating, paint protection, window etching, and nitrogen fill have already been done to your vehicle with no option to remove.
