It is not necessary from Ford (unless something changes), but it that dealer's policy.
I had to make a deposit of $500 for my Maverick, I guess it simply varies between dealerships!
This is solid advice, thanks! Just trying to figure out if this is the normal fee for reserving, first time new truck buyer here.Granger has typically required a $1K non-refundable deposit - that is what I had to do last year to get their 3% below invoice deal. I believe they do this to be able to evidence to Ford that their buyers are valid and accountable in the ordering process. Primarily I suspect so that if buyers do back out they can argue against it counting against their customer ordered vs retail inventory (If I recall correctly, Ford has an 80% delivery to the customer requirement for customer orders - falling below this can impact future allocations).
With that said, I would not do a large deposit without a signed agreement to final pricing - I wouldn't even do that if the agreement were just for MSRP, however that may be your only option.
At a minimum I would require a signed purchase agreement at MSRP, no dealer-installed junk add-ons, and no egregious document fees. Otherwise find a dealer with smaller or no deposit requirements - there are plenty of decent dealers (including ones with great prices that could be worth a flight and day/weekend trip) - while this could be one of them I would tread lightly!
Apparently these stealers don’t realize we can contact Ford directly to verify what they are saying. Dumbs****.
while I think the "ford requires' need verification, it seems Planet Ford is a good dealership (rating from ford website). I noticed that the bad dealerships have no ratings...'hmmm'.
What I read is a non-negotiable down payment required by FORD to order a 2023 from them.
I put down $200 last June when I ordered, my dealer asked for $100 and it was fully refundable.I’m not sure What is wrong with people on this forum, and deposits. You were buying a tens of thousands of dollar truck, what is wrong with giving $500-$1000 to show intent to purchase when it arrives. If you walk away, because you don’t have any skin in the game, you were taking an allocation and a build away from a customer who does want that vehicle.
They are now stuck with your specifications I cannot order their specifications
