So I recently purchased a 2023 Tremor from a local dealership in western WA. They had been keeping an eye out for me and on 7/13 I received an email saying that they had one coming in. I know they’re not supposed to sell a vehicle before it has been delivered but they did anyway.

While at the dealership I was told that the vehicle had an estimated delivery date of 7/27. They also said that it was currently on a truck and they knew that it had already crossed the border.
Over the last few weeks I have reached out for updates a few times and each time have been told “no update” and most recently “we can’t really track the orders”. This seems inconsistent with the original statement of “it’s on a truck and across the border”, how could they know this without some sort of tracking capability?

Well I started digging and was able to find my window sticker, and was then able to use the Ford order tracking site. The current status is “built 7/4”. This would indicate that it still hasn’t shipped but has been waiting to do so for a month.

So my question, is it normal for the tracker to lag this far behind or did my dealership just lie about what they knew? Also, is it common for an order to be built and then wait a whole month to ship?
As most have stated ... yes it is probably normal and yes the dealer should be able to track your order while it is in transit. For me: I received an email from Ford stating my order was in transit with a pretty wide date range for arrival. My dealer contacted me and initially stated to expect delivery 2-3 Aug. However, my dealer emailed me at the beginning of the week that my Maverick was on a train to Delaware but to expect a delay as there are issues with transportation by truck from the train depot to the dealership. Good luck!

Wellll......I just remembered something...that might make this bad. Did you say you already purchased it? Like 100% bought it and paid and signed all the paperwork? If it was there, they would have already handed you the keys and kicked you out the front door? If so.....they may not be jerking you around. I believe @fordvideoguy has said that once it is sold, dealer cant track it anymore. This is why his dealership doesn't like to "sell" them before they arrive. @fordvideoguy , am I correct in that recollection?
Correct, once you have done paperwork and reported it sold to Ford, they can not track it anymore. We have lost several vehicles in the past by doing this and refuse to do that any more.

Unless there was a problem with it, it is NOT still in Mexico. We ordered two, and both of them shipped within 3 days of being built, and that was one in March and the other in June. Chances are it is sitting at a terminal awaiting a truck to take it to the finish line.

@Psilosparky , any update? Post (or private message me) the railcar number when you get it from the Ford Customer Support Line and I can track it for you. I have gotten really good at understanding the robot lady who talks to you when you call the railroad tracking phone number.

I almost did that because I thought the dealer was going to sell my truck since he said, are you sure you want it since I’ve waited so long. Glad I didn’t.

Thanks again paneubert for offering to help with the rail tracking but it looks like there’s nothing to track yet.

After digging a bit further we called the dealership to ask if they knew anything. They said “I looks like it is now showing the status as delayed and it is still in Mexico”. This is a big problem because when we came in 7/13 to make the deal we were told “we are tracking this Maverick. It is on a transport truck and already stateside”. It is clear now that that was bad information. We also asked for updates a few times between 7/13 and now and were consistently told “no update”.

This is all extra messed up because they have my trade sitting on their lot. I am currently on family bonding leave for my newborn. I did not want to give them my vehicle until I get the new one because that would leave my wife and baby stranded at home when I go back to work. They reassured me, and I made this decision with the bad information that they gave us. It now looks like a guarantee that we will spend some time as a one car family with me going to work.

So we went to the dealership today and talked with the one of the sales managers. We made him pull up VinView in front of us and show us the updates. Last update was 7/27 showing in Mexico and delayed. Previous update was 7/4 saying built and awaiting shipment in Mexico. No reason whatsoever to think that the car had crossed the border, which I was assured that they knew on 7/13.

The sales manager said he understood, gave an explanation to why someone would say what we were told given the information on the screen which basically boiled down to “they kinda blew it off and didn’t look far enough into it “ and asked what we wanted to do. We said give us a loaner until the Maverick comes in and 5k off. We don’t want our trade back until delivery, that would be our risk, I want it to be their risk. It had a 5k markup so this isn’t even that much to ask for, probably should have asked for invoice. He came back with “we need to talk to the other sales manage first, he’s not back until next week, we’ll call you then”.

There is nothing on their lot that I want, and would ultimately just be back to square one trying to find a Maverick so I’m inclined to hear what they counter with and go from there.
