How often do you change your oil on a hybrid? Ford recommends 0-20w Synthetic Oil at 7-10,000 miles for Hybrids. Now if 1/3 of your mileage is electric you should be able to extend oil changes. Using synthetic oil I always went 10-20000 on my previous vehicles before changing it with no problems. Chemist have told me that oil doesn't wear out it only breaks down under heat and pressure like race cars.

Oil changes remain a relevant topic for me. I'd say at least once a year or at about 15% oil life. For me, I'll easily make 10k miles or 1 year. That's if I were in control of the interval. I'm currently dealer bound and I have a maintenance contract that says 5 years 8 visits, 7500 service interval. I also have to take it in at least every 7 months to maintain lifetime loaners and inspections. The Maverick is my only car as of yesterday. I'm trying something new here with dealerships and lots of road trips.

Yes you can if you use a 20000 mile rated oil and appropriate high mileage filter. We have a 2016 fusion energi hybrid PHEV and I change it at 10 k just because. The oil minder has never come on I just reset it. I use Mobil one and Mobil one filter.

Minimum should be once a year and I would never go more than 10k. It’s cheap insurance if you’re planning to keep it past warranty.
Fortunately none of my vehicles go more than 3-4k miles in a year so it’s easy for me to keep track. Modern engines and lubricants can take longer intervals than what I grew up on of 5-6k between oil changes. It would stress me out to go past 10k if I drove that much in a year😆

The additives in the oil do break down and do get consumed. There's anti rust, there's friction reducers, there's foam preventers and many more. Those all get consumed. Not only do they get consumed, with time they break down. The result is yes you still oil, but a very worn down engine. That's why you still need to change the oil, and not every 20k miles

Go by the oil life sensor.
It takes into account all the variables.
Well, the important variables anyway.

To be fair, this is the first thread of someone saying that they have 20k mile oil change intervals. I can't believe this is real lol
Actually, in my 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid, the oil lasted 20,000 miles. Lab test verified. They were mostly highway miles.

What did the additives look like at 20k?

It doesn't wear out. Correct.
It starts out with alkaline additives.
Slowly, acids are produced. The alkaline additives neutralize the acids.
When the TBN (total base number) is zero, you should replace the oil. The oil will still lubricate. But it will gradually become corrosive.

TBN was still 2.
Fresh oil, about 15.

So 2/15th still remained. Or 13.33%.
Wow that's actually not bad considering getting the miles. Thanks for showing me the way
