This has not been my experience across many, many brands. But you do what you need to do. I shopped 3 dealers before going with Granger that participates on the forum. I specifically asked about ADMs being added.. all three told me no.

Dealer 1 - MSRP + $700 doc fee
Dealer 2 - MSRP + $300 doc fee
Granger, as advertised here - 3% under invoice + $180 doc fee

Ended up being an easy choice.
Im ready to place an order with this guy then. I can wait as long as I need to and can fly out and drive back. Seriously, (most) the dealers here in CO are crap. They have been trying to fleece EV buyers out of the state rebate for years now basically adding federal and state credit / rebate to "discounted" advertised price while charging MSRP and higher... they are complete assholes.

The entire US dealership model is terrible.

We should be able to buy cars directly from the manufacturer for a set price. This whole game that basically every dealer has to play is worn out. I've bought 20 cars in the past 20 years, either for our household or doing deals for family/friends. Captain hook could count on one hand how many times it wasn't a ridiculous experience. It's like they either have bots that reply to all written correspondence or every single one of the employees at every dealer undergoes the same training course, and that training course pre-dates the internet.

Bought a Forte GT for my dad a few months back, for example. I reached out and said hey, you have this car stock # XXX, is it available? They said yes, when are you coming in? I said no, no.. we already own one, no test drive needed. I would like to buy it, at your advertised price, and I'd like to do so today. Their reply? When are you coming in for a test drive? No matter what I said, their reply was always various versions of when I was coming to test drive. Sometimes they said "what time is good for you to come in for a test drive?", sometimes they said "When are you coming in for a test drive?", sometimes they said "What time should we set up an appt for a test drive?" - I finally lost my cool with them. They had the only 6-speed GT in Atlanta. I left a voicemail for the GM saying I had reached out and asked to buy the car at asking price and no one would help me, did he have an employee that wasn't a complete idiot?

Car was delivered that evening to my dad at home.

What you refer to as business, may be seen as price gouging to others.
I have mixed feelings on the ethics of the market, but I feel that price gouging has connotations of *material necessities* (i.e gas, water, food during a disaster) and I’m not sure dealer markup on a brand new vehicle falls into that category. At least in the legal/criminal definition. Just devil advocating semantics heh

I would tend to agree. The unfortunately reality is that cars can be a necessity. For many they are just part of your normal expenses, but for many they are more critical and a larger expense that can't really be replaced.

I think the worst part of it impacts people who end up in a place needing a vehicle for employment, but are priced out of even the used market except the worst junk it there.

Dealer markups on new inventory are just shady, but anyone that can afford to shell out for a new vehicle should also know better than to throw away their money on dealer markups.

What lender is financing a vehicle for so much over MSRP? Seems like banks wouldn't lend thousands over vale for a vehicle. Or are customers putting a lot of cash down on these deals?

You got it. Some financers are increasing a little bit more over MSRP, often at a higher interest rate. But in most instances it will just be more money down.

It's not unusual for lenders to go up to 125% of MSRP. Going to 150% is possible with strong credit, but there is going to be a significant APR penalty for that. Perhaps dealers have some sort of arrangement with captive financing from Ford on this? I don't see the average person shopping a $25,000 vehicle having $10,000 to front (and then still finance the full $25,000).

Did a country-wide search on Autotrader and sorted by price high to low. The linked deal is the one of the most marked up Mavericks in the US. I do see a few for 45k and no MSRP listed LOL! Shady or not, thats not the way to repeat business and its 100% opportunist BS. Why would anyone even consider doing business with people that would do this? No thanks. Not the first time I have purchased out of state, wont be the last.

You should look at Civic Type Rs... MSRP like $34,800 and you can't get a used one for less than about $46,000.

I have never paid over sticker, and I never will. I don't want any car bad enough to do that. The Forte GT deal I did for my dad was actually the first time I'd ever even paid MSRP and I wasn't thrilled about that.

I really do not get people who pay over MSRP (my neighbor just did about $3500). You have to figure that if the old standby of 15%-20% loss of value, when you drive the car off the lot plus now the markup over MSRP. You are losing 25%-40% of the value as soon as you drive an over MSRP vehicle off the lot.

You might not realize the loss initially with the inflated used market, but when you go to trade in/sell your vehicle in 2-3 years, the loss is going to be painful for those who paid over MSRP.
