World Ford in Pensacola, Florida was asking for a $5000 dealer markup on preorders back in June, plus other paperwork and prep fees. I went elsewhere obviously.

The simple solution is to just not pay. Once the desperate early adopters get fleeced, the markups start to fade.

If consumers dont pay the markup over MSRP then the price will come down. BTW the purpose of the dealership is to make money - the most possible so in a sales situation whether it is a used or new they are trying to maximize the sale in their favor. Are there some sleazy dealerships for sure - but in America you can just walk away holding a middle finger skyward as you go. This really doesnt apply to being ripped off in service I would say. "Greediest" - every business could be called this. in a capitalist system but supply and demand is what sets pricing.

That Co. stealer description is vague, doesn't even mention which model, XL, XLT or Lariat.

Paging through craigslist occasionally I note Carvana lists 2 year old cars at new list price, can't see how they got so big...

It's not going to be sustainable for manufacturers to tolerate gigantic dealer markups over msrp. Not every manufacturer is going to go to the build to order model, and those that do try to stick with it are going to lose sales to the manufacturers that keep units on the lot. There is still a fixed cost to keep a plant going that needs to be spread across the units produced.

Consumers ALWAYS have the final say on price, whether they realize it or not. Just say no and walk away. No car on the market is worth making a bad financial mistake on by overpaying.

I ordered at MSRP, which I think is a fair value for the vehicle. But if the dealer tries to jack me at the last minute with a price hike I am not paying. I'll be calling the local news consumer protection unit to see if they need a story.

It won't do you any good to go to the news. Car dealerships are shady? Not news.

Do you not have a signed agreement showing final price?

This is probably the way of the future in the automotive world from what I'm reading. To keep from having to put so much money on the hood, the manufacturers are likely going to intentionally keep ground stock low.

We shall see. My order shows the msrp, and there was no mention of charging more. I am not against dealers charging over MSRP. I am against the surprise markups at the last minute like some Bronco buyers have faced recently.

If dealer post higher prices and people see it and pay it, all good.

Actually it does do you and your community good. One by bringing to attention that the dealership is being more "shady" than others in the area. Also ford does not like bad publicity even though the dealership is a private business ford does have some say in what they do. More likely to get ford's attention than the dealerships

This has not been my experience across many, many brands. But you do what you need to do. I shopped 3 dealers before going with Granger that participates on the forum. I specifically asked about ADMs being added.. all three told me no.

Dealer 1 - MSRP + $700 doc fee
Dealer 2 - MSRP + $300 doc fee
Granger, as advertised here - 3% under invoice + $180 doc fee

Ended up being an easy choice.

Not really surprised because the latest and hottest vehicle are frequently sold over MSRP at some dealerships. PT Cruiser, Prowler, Charger, Challenger, Santa Cruz, and Maverick are some examples of this. After the fad wears down, the pricing should return to normal.

I knew Colorado dealers were some of the worst in the US but this is insane:
https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?listingId=605926513
28535 --> 39330: Nearly 11k (37%) markup
Obviously im not gonna pay that but I wouldnt pay even sticker to buy any Ford from these guys after seeing this shit.
I like how they labeled the 4.6" bed as 'super short'....like that was an extra addon option. Like you deleted a regular 6 ft in favor of the 'super short' option.
I also like how they labeled the standard cab as a 'super-crew' as if there were other cab options available. Like you got rid of the super cab and upgraded to the super crew.
