.... personally, I would take the Ecoboost! I've got it in my '22 XL , 33500 miles so far, no problems at all . 31 mpg . Old school gas engine, just sayin .
The Ecoboost is not an old school gas engine. The fact it's a turbo makes it anything but old school. History on Ecobbost engines has been sporadic at best.

You know what I'm saying, no gas/electric mix up going on under the hood . And with the recent issues with the hybrid.......... I'll personally take my turbo Ecoboost gas engine every single time. That's just me, you do you .

See, i have a 2023 Hybrid that is NOT affected by the recall. In fact, most of the 2023s weren't affected by it. Nor are the same engines built in the Europe plant for the Kuga.

So yeah, I feel pretty confident in it.
That you know of... yet. That's all I'm saying. I hope you are right too. You are more optimistic than I am but maybe this is your first FORD lol.

Ah, yes, wouldn't want the injectors accidentally injecting electricity instead of gasoline. Hate when that happens.

Ima geezer, retired, and went with an ecoboost FWD. In GA don't need nor want the AWD complexity and slight mpg hit. I have done pretty well freeway trips, getting 39.x mpg on the last, and about 27 in town.
A hybrid would likely save me $$ over time, but my days of racking up the miles are over. I'll pay the slight fuel penalty, and enjoy the fun factor of having more hp than in anything prior, while still beating them all in fuel usage. After 18 months, I have just over 2000 miles on the odometer.
If you want one of these before you slip on that banana peel next to that 6' hole... go ecoboost and have some fun. Some of us are too old to wait for 'most desired' and will settle for 'a lotta fun'. eh?
Tom,

I posted this video earlier and just read your comment. You say the same as me! I own one of each version. The hybrid is practical but the turbo is FUN.! Put you into the back of your seat kind of fun. Sure there is a speed limit but there is no limit on how long it takes to get there.

I also say in this video that it makes no sense to pay a big ADM to buy a hybrid to save on gas costs. The break even on gas savings is not months but years.

The Escapes are having the same issue. It's why I got rid of mine. Never trusted that setup from it's battery issues, to the engine issues, to the many other recalls/TSB's. It's not being blown out of proportion - there is a recall telling people to literally stop driving these vehicles because they grenade themselves.
I got the recall(23S27) a few days ago.

It does NOT say to stop driving the vehicle.

It says "You should safely park and shut off the engine as promptly as possible upon hearing unexpected engine noises, after experiencing a reduction in available engine power, or if smoke is observed emanating from the engine compartment."

Which I hope people would do on any vehicle they are driving!

Like I said - their LEGALLY OBLIGATED wording is basically pleading the 5th. Admitting as little as possible. Doing something only because they are required to. Anyone with a brain would do this "troubleshooting" regardless of the noise/smell/sight if it's unusual. It doesn't change the fact it's a massive recall because the engines grenade themselves.

A massive corporation knowing their engineering leads to engines literally blowing up and the possibility of catching on fire and ya'll are just like "Nah, it's cool... I don't see a problem here. Wanna test it? Let's go for a spin."...

This is the only place where people refuse to accept the truth. This forum. Everywhere else people are eyes wide open and going "nope... not buying that". And if they do, it's because they are clueless - which again, is showcased in this forum.

You do you then. Good luck, I hope nobody burns to death or hurts anyone else on the road in the process of the grenade going off under the hood. I hope it is narrowed down to a very specific set of production dates and in the past. But I also know FORD and this is NOT the first time something like this has happened. 4.6/5.4L 3V anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Maybe they didn't catch fire, but you'd be lucky to drive past 30k and FORD is well known for simply wiping their hands of it and moving onto the next thing. That's all I'm saying. You can be optimistic if you want, but for the price you pay, should you really have to?

Would it be a good idea to drop the Hybrid for the 2.0 Eco Boost after receiving the update from Ford. And after they said that I should order a my24 in case the my23 hybrid doesn’t make the cut for production? I’m retired and got a little scared by some of the problems with hybrid. Plus I won’t be driving more than 10,000 miles a year.
All vehicles will have issues. I would order the truck you want

man people love to argue about the engine choices a lot on here. The trope that the EB is more simple compared to the Hybrid is somewhat not accurate. People who believe that probably never worked on a EB motor. It’s 10lbs of doodoo is a 5lb hole. Turbos themselves are simple. But all the other junk manufacturers put in there to make it more efficient make it extremely complicated. I’d suggest people at least read up on engineering of the EB. Two fuel pumps (one very expensive), expensive high pressure injectors , plastic intake manifold that incorporates the turbo. Not to mention the 8 speed autos($$$$). No repairing them. Just remove and put in a knew one $8,000 later.

The hybrid is a old proven Mazda motor with “old school” port injectors. Basic (less parts) eCVT.
But I’ll agree the increasing price premium for the hybrid makes it less appealing. honesty the increasing premium on a inexpensively made truck is even worse

It's not. Nor is it my second.

You seem incredibly optimistic considering no one on this forum's Hybrid has caught on fire -- but at least one EcoBoost has.

Context matters - they overfilled the engine oil when it was already leaking and burning oil. Read the whole thread. That is a user error - not an engineering error. Nice try tho...

You're just real determined to derail this thread, and I'm kind of done with it.

Unless the hybrid ever has 4k tow and awd, I can't see myself ever buying a hybrid maverick. Even then I'd rather it be an all electric with a tow package and awd than a hybrid.

I feel like that's beside the point of the thread though, right? It's pretty safe to assume the Hybrid can do everything the OP needs it to or else he wouldn't have made that engine choice to start with.
