I saw the thread but that was just a guys findings. No technical data to back it up. Thinking more of an engineers answers.
What is your specific question or questions?

Wanting to know what is turning inside while being towed. I’ve read, you can’t tow a Tesla because it turns the electric motors.

Two things:
This thread is hilarious.
What the hell is a
Ford ESCAPT?????? It is mentioned NUMEROUS times in this thread.
I read it to be an escape that "got away" sometime in the past.

While being towed, pushed, or simply rolling down a hill with the engine off... Both the traction motor and generator spin at equal rpm in opposite directions, like putting your differential up in the air and spinning one tire.

There is no mechanical "Neutral" because nothing moves to engage or disengage. The gears are always in mesh. There is only "simulated neutral" a term I coined. You won't find that term in the manual because Ford (presumably) didn't want to confuse people.

When I had my Escape Hybrid, I put the front end up on jack stands, started the truck, put it in neutral, and the wheels would spin. While no torque was being commanded, it's impossible to impart exactly zero torque from a rotating engine due to internal friction for starters. Usually in simulated neutral the friction with the ground is greater than the internal friction, so the truck won't move. But with near zero friction on the tires, the tires will spin in neutral, and gradually accelerate in neutral, as proof all the gearing is still in mesh.

They spin at 125 rpm per mph.
So 125 rpm x 80 mph = 10,000 rpm.

Lucky for you, the motors are rated to AT LEAST 13,500 rpm, (the old Escape was) which coincidently is 108 MPH which is why the governor is set to 108 MPH. (Sure you could hit 110 down hill but why take the risk of damaging an electric motor?)

Edit: the video below states the Rav4 (2019 and above) can sustain 17,000 RPM so Maverick may be higher than the older Escape)

Ford "gets away" with allowing you to flat tow by also "requiring" you to start the truck to cycle lubricants on these parts every 6 hours of towing. The start every 6 hours is also a means to keep the HV battery charged. Small amounts of power are being used while you are towing it.

Great Video.
I highly recommend.
This guy is an expert.
He's also the one that said (in a different video) that Toyota got some tech for the latest "sportier" Prius (2023) from Ford.

Excellent, Excellent video.
Shows why there is no real "neutral".
Assuming the Maverick is similar to the Rav4 hybrid (because it is) the transmission oil is fed from an ENGINE driven oil pump. More credence to the fact you should start the gas engine every 6 hours when flat towing behind a motorhome.

Excellent video. And he has a whole series. You can see batteries torn apart and more.

What better source than a professor who is an expert in the field? :)

Wha’s the damper issue?
Well...it is THIS noise. For me, it started at 1900 miles. Has been getting LOUDER and MUCH WORSE in frequency (like every day, multiple times a day). Listen to the very end. It is VERY embarrassing too. I am just waiting for the truck to dump me somewhere.

That's the common issue.
By common, maybe this happens to 1 in 1000. There's dozens of examples of this exact sound.

Maybe not "common" if you are an owner, but 1 in 1000 is pretty common from a manufacturing perspective.

Recall or TSB pending. Just has to be.

It's covered under warranty.
But it's a difficult job and parts, slow to arrive.

The more people that post sounds and video of this issue, hopefully the faster we move to recall/TSB.

PLEASE record and post. Thank you.

you can search this sight there was a video on this ,something about the heat exchanger box located on the rt/side face the engine this has been a known issue the cat/converter heat range causes the box to rattle making this awful noise and rattle. when this happens open your hood and you will see it "SHAKING" your ford dealer will know about this surely!!!
Awesome he sounds like

Finally found time to get under the hood to change the oil and check on the engine tag. Engine tag denotes made in Mexico while paperwork says made in U.S.
