I ordered a Maverick xlt hybrid on Sep 2021 from Chapman Ford Horsham. It has arrived at the dealership now, but I was notified that the Maverick came in with carrier damage to the bumper and it will be fixed prior to the delivery. I've never encountered this situation before, what should I do? Maybe I will still accept delivery (?) since it's been two years. Will the damage impact the value of the car? Thanks.

I just picked up my Mav from them on 6/19. They will take good care of you - I suspect if necessary they'll just replace whatever part was damaged and you'll never see a difference.

My advice, let them fix it. If there were 25 Mavericks on the lot that would be a different story, but of course there are not. You waited almost two years for your unicorn to walk away now over a bumper.

Back in 96 my brand new ordered Ranger Splash came in damaged. There was a run in the paint on the left rear quarter panel. I accepted the truck. Those fiberglass rear fenders were easily removable just like your bumper. Done deal. Truck ended up good as new. The body guy even made sure the repainted fender had the right amount of oranges peel to match the rest of the truck. :ROFLMAO:

Just my $.02.

Just a thought- Maybe you want to take a peek at it before they begin work. If it’s ONLY a bumper, who cares.
If there’s body damage, I might think about it based on the extent.

Hope you photographed the damage and noted it on the delivery sheet. If so, keep it with the cosmetic damage and pocket your damages check? Carriers have liability insurance for damage during transit. I remember that from shipping my Miata a few years back. It gets inspected at pickup by the carrier, and you inspect it at delivery.

Definitely check the damage in person, however if’s it’s done prior to you picking it (if is minor) will not affect the value. Also as others have said times are very different right now since there aren’t any other hybrid/mavericks around and especially since you have waited so long, etc… I personally would not hesitate to buy (if it’s minor as they should be able to fix without any noticeable changes).

Indirectly related:
This does NOT get reported to CarFax, does it?
Because that could affect the value in the future

My father used to work for the umbrella called American Road insurance, a subsidiary of Ford Credit. They cover the losses from transit and sitting on dealer lots.

They will take care of it. But I do think I'd like to get a good before and after glimpse if I were you.

Transport damage on new vehicles is exceptionally common (I've heard as high as 20%+ quoted) and typically gets quietly repaired with none the wiser.
I second this. Having spent 15 years in the powersports dealer network, I've seen even more severe transit damage be repaired and sold as new. Cosmetic damage is easily (though sometimes not cheaply) repaired/replaced with no affect on the end product.

Nice of the dealer to inform you, but there's nothing much for you to do specifically, other than make sure you're satisfied with the repair.

Just order them to fix it. It's better than waiting for a different truck. The carrier is either their employee, or a third party company they've hired. Either way, if the guy they hired screwed up and damaged your truck, they need to fix it. Either the dealership, or the transportation company. They tend to make these things right.

I used to work for a car hauler (back when dinosaurs ruled the planet) and there is no hauler that could stay in business with a 20% damage rate. Most haulers are below 1%; But it happens. The dealer will claim against the carrier and the carrier will pay the claim. It will be invisible to you.
Still, I would check the carrier/dealer delivery checklist t ensure (a) there was no additional damage and (b) that all damage has been repaired to your satisfaction.
