How much damage. If over $2500 it will affect your possible resale or trade. Ask for a price for a price adjustment.

I ordered a Maverick xlt hybrid on Sep 2021 from Chapman Ford Horsham. It has arrived at the dealership now, but I was notified that the Maverick came in with carrier damage to the bumper and it will be fixed prior to the delivery. I've never encountered this situation before, what should I do? Maybe I will still accept delivery (?) since it's been two years. Will the damage impact the value of the car? Thanks.
If the damage is fixed prior to sell, it’s a brand new vehicle. They may not be able to sell it until it’s fixed.

As a former employee at a Ford dealer I am very familiar with this process. It was my responsibility to check in new vehicles and submit the claim for any damage found. Did the dealer catch it when it was checked in with the driver? If it was, then it should have been noted and signed for by both the driver and the dealership. Most often, drivers see everything as they are loading, and they note it before leaving the yard. It is not very often that they miss any damage caused before the carrier received it off the rail. They are also NOT supposed to point out what they found to the dealer. If the dealer does catch it, they have to inform you about the damage found at time of delivery. If they don't, they are shady and I would not recommend doing business at a dealer like that. Was the damage on a painted surface or was it to the textured plastic. With any luck it was the textured lower bumper. They would just replace the part. If its the painted part of the bumper then obviously it would need to be repainted which I was always skeptical of doing depending what was needing to be painted. Honestly checking in new vehicles was a nightmare. I have had way too many nights of lost sleep over it. As someone else stated, it has got way more common than it used to. Anywhere from 15-20% of the vehicles had something. Dents, deep scratches and chips that required painting large panels, missing floor mats and other loose shipped items, damaged wheels, missing catalytic converters, cracked headlight/ taillight lens, and so much more. Anyway, sound like you have a honest dealer that you are working with and if they are taking care of it. You should have no worries. It wouldn't hurt to put eyes on the before and after, especially if painting is required.

Thanks for all the replies and solutions! It seems that it is just a minor issue and my delivery date won't be delayed for some time.

Just sat with elderly Aunt Judy through the test drive and buying process of a new Nissan Rogue. Here in Texas if there is transit or lot damage, an acknowledgement form must be signed. In her case, the rear bumper was slightly damaged on the ride over from Japan. Their body shop repaired it meticulously and you saw nothing. Since its not a traffic accident situation with rebuilding/replacing a number of parts, it won’t be reported to Carfax.
