Not necessarily in a Maverick of course. I'm asking because I'm curious about your experience. You browse the Web and you hit on all these stories about how EcoBoost engines dirty up the valves, etc. How they won't last. It's the Web. You don't know what to believe. So I'm just wondering if anybody has personal anecdotes to share.

I have an old anemic 4 cylinder Ford engine, normally aspirated - not particularly working all that hard. It's at 102,000 miles without incident and plugging along happily. Just wondering what I can look forward to with my EcoBoost, should I ever receive it.

Probably quite a few examples out there.

Here's a thread on a 465k mile 2.7L EB in an F150:
465,000 Mile 2.7 - Page 46 - Ford F150 Forum - Community of Ford Truck Fans

Guy bought it new June 2016, traded it in Aug.2021 with 465k on it. The plot twist is - he traded it in for a Ram, not another F150. But a good reason for that - at the time the Ram dealer gave him a "great" trade-in value for the F150 (appraised at 46.5k mile erroneously instead of 465k miles).

160k km so 100k miles on a 2011 F-150 3.5 V-6. No engine problems other than changing out spark plugs as recommended and changing a set of coils (6). I ran synthetic oil the whole time due to turbo heat. This is the 1st gen Eco plus a ran a 5Start engine tune so it wasn’t babied……transmission has gotten funky lately

Better to look at statistics rather than anecdotes. Consumer Reports gathers that kind of data. If you’re considering a vehical purchase, it’s probably worth it to buy temporary access to their data. I don’t think anyone else has that much detail.

Yes. at my last job we had a fleet of F150s with the 3.5 EB. They all got tons of miles and were usually retired and replaced with nearly 200k on them. Nothing more than fleet maintenance at manufacturer suggested intervals with standard non synthetic fluids. (7500 miles or when the oil change light came on). None ever had any engine problems at least at the regional area I worked at.

As for the regular every day ones we've had a 1.6 EB escape, and a 2.0 EB Edge (both leases of the wifes) and I currently drive a 2.0 EB escape until my maverick comes in. My dad has a 2.7 EB 2016 F150 that just turned 100k miles. No issues that we've had.

From what I've read... count on having the valves walnut shell shot for about $600 at 80,000 miles to clean off the carbon deposits, although I think I read Ford does not recommend it, and would recommend a valve job for several thousand dollars instead?

I’ve had 2 Company cars For Escapes with the EcoBoost each vehicle had over 40k each at turn in and I purchased one for my wife at end of the lease at the company. Never had any issues with either cars which is the main reason I ordered my 2023 Maverick Lariat with the EcoBoost. No sorry one bit I went that route. Vehicle has been rock solid. Had only 2 software recalls in the year and a half I own it. Can’t complain about anything with this truck.

I understand this is an almost universally understood eventuality for these engines on this forum, but in several years as a (mostly) engine/drivability tech I never performed this service or encountered a set of valves bad enough to need it. Coolant/oil seal leaks from various fittings (mainly turbo fittings) at higher mileages are far more likely for most owners IME

2014 Fiesta ST currently at 264000+ miles. No work done on the motor (knock on wood); other “wear” items include new clutch, water pump and belts at 246000 miles.

Someone on the Bronco 6G forum has 100k on his 2.3L Bronco with no issues.

I've got a MY22 Maverick with the ecoboost, not a huge amount of miles on it so far but its rock solid so far. My wife has 2018 expedition with ecoboost, got no complaints. Have several good friends with different varieties of ecoboost engines way loooong past 100K never heard any complaints. Before I retired several years ago, had several co workers with them, 1 was a beater work car, no idea on mileage on theirs but they never spoke bad about them. My thoughts are use a quality tier 1 gasoline brand, change the oil and filter (full synthetic oil) every 5K miles and roll on like a happy camper. Maintenance is key with anything, just my opinion. I've never had a regret.

That is a fine testament to the ecoboost reliability! All the nay sayers need to take note of this - The internet is full of gloom and doom stories that are not the case for the majority.
