I’m sure 100k is a joke, but regarding mileage claims of oil, do they consider contaminants introduced during operation such as dirt and fuel passing into the oil?… or is it tested in a lab without these factors?… just my thoughts.

While my entire post was a joke, oil companies do lab testing of their oils in test mule engines. To me regardless of what test mules in a controlled environment tell them, anything over 8k miles is just silly and asking for oil sludge to build up in the engine.

Nice report, did you do 5K mile oil changes with Kirkland (Warren Distribution) oil for the life of the vehicle? I am also kinda curious what the oil life monitor on the ecoboost was suggesting for an intervals while you did the 5K ones.

Looks like all the values are good, but fuel dilution may have started to become a concern with a few if the interval was doubled.

Best way to find out is to try it out and get the oils tested. Each situation is different.

I just checked the cost of the test. I may do that and report back.

I’m a little stuck. I can’t have my fun right now cause I divorced my wife on the 18th and I want to help her get out of my house in a kind manner with the holidays and all. I’m hoping it goes smooth and I don’t have to force the issue. So I have been staying at home conversing with you Maverick members.

For my truck, Some of the Blackstone analysis reports, reveals low viscosiTy #’s and shear. That is for both Motorcraft blend and full syn variety. Reports saying no concerns. But my beef is the oil not meet published specifications.

However I often wonder if Ford dealer Quick Change bulk oils are really the Motorcraft brand. I did ask and service writer looked it up, says it is. Maybe need dip finger in it, taste it to be sure?

I had to look that up. Mostly Kirkland.

The factory fill came out at about 1500 miles.

The car was in for a recall and I had a dealer freebie, so it got a dealer oil change at 25k that came out at 30k. So, whatever they dumped in it.

Motorcraft FL-910s filters exclusively.

What we don‘t know is how it tests out of the bottle. Is it off when new, or shearing in use?

Since I’m not seeing any problem wear in the sample or oil consumption, I’m not inclined to investigate further.

Not sure I agree with the viscosity falling out of grade as not a concern, especially for a FI engine. I would personally not use that oil.

Near as I can tell it's based on unicorn tears and hope.

That said, one has to presume that testing taking place in a perfect environment of clean air, consistent temperatures and effective oil filtration.

well I know a Guy who got 400K out of a Chevy HHR changing the oil at 25K intervals( sometimes not even then) he used amsoil,the thing is frequent oil changes remove a lot of contaminents from the engine.

We change our oil to get a new fresh additive package in and get suspended contamination out.

I do trust those better brands of full synthetic motor oils that are rated out to 15,000 miles.

I used to run that but I still changed it at about 10,000 mile intervals, sometimes 12,000. Hey I was busy.
Mobil 1 extended range full synthetic got me 528,000 trouble free server duty miles out of a 2.7 Liter Taco 4 banger.

I would bet I’d never make a half million miles on five oil changes with any engine.
