Unrelated to the thread topic, but how are they claiming the hybrid is sold already? I thought they weren't delivering hybrids until the EPA gave the ok to buy.
Sold as in spoken for. My XL is "sold" and once it arrives at the dealership it is NOT a demonstrator model because it is sold even though I haven't given them the $$$ yet.

I'd rather walk away if my dealer does that. Can't justify signing a purchase agreement for a truck I've never test driven.
You are missing the point. When the truck comes in you can either accept it and take it home or back out and lose nothing. Deposits are fully refundable. The dealer would rather you back out after they receive it because they can rape someone on it selling it on the lot. There is basically no risk ordering one. Make sure they paperwork you sign has all the figures done correctly and you are all set.

Someone mentioned the purchase agreement isn't a commitment, just locked in the price. Which i was unaware, I've never bought a new car. I pre-ordered but never signed a purchase agreement, which now I'll be calling about.

Is a signed (by both parties) DORA legally equivalent to a purchase agreement? What is your opinion?
Yes, As long as you have a document signed by both parties - then you have something to hold in their face when they show you the additional ADM fees.

I got a call from my dealer (Elk Grove Ford, in a suburb of Sacramento, CA) that the first two Mavericks had come in and would I like a look? Both already sold, one ordered, one bought off the lot. One Ecoboost, one hybrid.
If it was "sold as in spoken for", the dealer wouldn't have said it had just come in. That certainly may have been the miscommunication but there's no reason to believe that based off what poster said.

Adding $7995 to buyer's June order.

We did not talk price before hand, and I really wish we did. That’s on me.

Who knows. But when I loaned someone money without having a signed contract, and they defaulted, our long text thread about it was proof enough that he acknowledged the debt, and I won. Contracts can be written on a napkin and be valid.

I never signed anything and everything was done through email. Emails did state that they won’t charge above msrp so I’m wondering if they can still give me the ol’ switcharoo since I never technically signed anything. Anxiety starting to kick in lol.
The way it's supposed to work is that you leave a deposit, and the dealer orders it in the system, assigns your name to the order, and you get a confirmation email back from Ford. That's just the order itself, though, not necessarily a price agreement.

For most people, having an enforceable price agreement and making sure they can get their deposit back are important objectives.

I believe the best way to lock in the total price (including everything -- taxes, doc fees, etc.) is to execute a Vehicle Buyer's Order. Everything is listed on it and both parties sign it. It's an enforceable contract. Some people say a signed DORA is just as good, but it leaves out a lot of the terms and I don't know about its enforceability.

BUT... You have to read it carefully. My dealer's standard form says that what I consider my down payment is actually a non-refundable order fee that will be applied as a down payment at delivery. To get around that, we modified the Order (before signing) by adding a clause that says that if I am not satisfied with the performance of the Hybrid my money will be returned. So it's up to me.

Well it sounds like the door is open to being screwed over lol. Let’s hope they don’t decide to charge above msrp on a retail order when I go in.

I got a call from my dealer (Elk Grove Ford, in a suburb of Sacramento, CA) that the first two Mavericks had come in and would I like a look? Both already sold, one ordered, one bought off the lot. One Ecoboost, one hybrid.

Of course, I ran right over.

Salesman told me I was lucky I pre-ordered because they were marking up the price on the lot, but pre-order price would not change. (I also got fleet pricing through my employer, Nationwide Insurance, since NW buys all their vehicles from Ford and the pricing is offered to employers as perk of that, I guess.)

He also said they expect to see mine (Lariat hybrid) relatively soon, even though I haven't seen an update from Ford. He said they had a 80-some pre-orders from that dealership alone, and mine was No. 3.

Still prepared to be waiting a while, TBH. Good salesmanship on the dealer's/salesman's part, though, since I was sort of toying with canceling the order entirely in recent days when I was thinking I wouldn't see it until next year. (Ordered in early June.)

Couldn't drive it since it was already sold, but did sit in it and get a "tour" of the features. Was very pleased and am again patient about waiting.

This was the hybrid retail one, Area 51 although it looks greenish in this light. The bright blue was the pre-ordered ecoboost, and I didn't really look at that one since the new owners were there to get it.

There are no hybrids yet. There is not an ok to buy yet due to epa. They cannot be shipped. They are all sitting in Mexico with mine.

MSRP stands for *Manufacturers* Suggested Retail Price

The dealer cannot change it, they can be assholes and charge you more anyway though, but that would be over MSRP.
The bigger word is “suggested”. The dealer is paying Ford the invoice price. The dealer owns the product now and can charge what the market will pay after that. They dont have to follow a suggestion

All my vendors show a MSRP price on what I buy but it means nothing. Now charging more than a suggested price as a business strategy is a different conversation

Stock units, ok yes. But I/we ordered this truck through Ford and had no choice but to go through a dealer. I/we should not have to pay a markup after waiting 6+ months. Especially if this is the route Ford is looking to take moving forward with not keeping stock on dealer lots and moving to a built to order system.
