My dealer swapped plugs and adjusted the cams. I've been remote starting all week, no tractor mode idle yet... Not convinced its fixed though, but time will tell.

I'm pretty sure Ford will release a TSB eventually.
Good luck and keep me updated. Interested to see if that fix works. I could see a TSB but they will never recall this. I can’t imagine what it is costing ford to replace an engine damper. Requires engine and transmission removal.

I know the damper are the sound we hear, and theyre probably junk. But I dont think replacing it will fix the shaking. It'll just make the shaking more silent? But I'm no mechanic..

Received the maverick yesterday. I’ve included the work order in this post to help guide people and their dealers. It’s too soon to tell if this fixed the issue but I’ll keep this post updated with my findings. The fix involved removing the engine and transmission to gain access to the damper. The damper was replaced with a new one. It seems they also had to replace the engine coolant and completely discharge the high voltage battery. I’ll be keeping an eye on my high voltage battery because they said they ran into a “problem” getting that to charge back up to 100%. I honestly think they expected it to charge a lot faster than it does when in reality it takes a bit for that to happen while driving and braking. I am cautiously optimistic about this fix. It has worked for others with the same issue but this is their 3rd attempt to fix mine. Im also a little nervous about such an invasive repair in such a new vehicle. I definitely won’t be trying to fix this issue again if this doesn’t work and it’s going to be hard to not trade it in when I get a chance to get a 2024 Tacoma. We will see what happens. I also had the airbag recall done while it was there.

De-energizing is not the same as a "complete discharge". There is no reason to discharge the HV battery. They just completely disconnected the HV battery from the engine/eCVT so that it was safe to work on. At ~250 volts, it could cause death so you don't want it possibly energied while working around it.

Good catch. Yes I assumed that is why they did it.

Yeah, if they pulled the engine and transmission, they would have to refill the coolant system - at least that side of it... The battery / exhaust side should have remained intact and not needed refilling.

Not surprising they could not charge the HVB to 100%... It's not meant to be charged that high. Batteries kept charged between 20-80% last a LOT longer than if you fully charge and fully discharge them... As a general rule, the Maverick hybrid never charges the battery above ±70% state of charge in normal usage. The one known exception is when using engine braking on very long downhill sections, where it might go a bit higher.

My C-Max has a feature called EV+ that recognizes repeat stopping locations...like Home. When the car got to the last 1/4-1/3 mile of a recognized destination (whether stopping or not), it would automatically go into that mode with the intent of trying to DEPLETE the HVB as low as possible before parking. I'd think a 2023 would even manage the HVB better than the 2017 C-Max Hybrid does.

I’ve put around 500 miles since the repair and so far so good related to this issue. I’ll keep this post updated with the status.

I haven't had any rough idle/shake since the quick fix.. And its still winter up here around -9C / 15F this morning. Maybe next winter, issue may re-appear..

New update: While in neutral this thing has always acted weird and it’s getting worse. I discovered it by accident when I put it into neutral unknowingly on my way to drive. It would sputter and clank and act like it was going to stall. Every now and then I’ll purposely put it into neutral if the gas motor is running, which is when it does this just to see if it’s worked itself out. I decided to check up on this issue this morning and WOW. It started bucking, clanking, sputtering and then it started to throttle up like my foot was on the gas. After a few seconds of this it went into electric mode with a large “clank”. Nothing really surprises me anymore with this thing. I wanted to make it work but the Maverick has become a stopgap for me until I can get a 2024 Tacoma. Lesson learned with Ford.

Just thought I'd let you know I have a 2020 Escape HEV and I discovered this same issue by accident one day. That was before they replaced the flywheel/clutch damper at 23,000 miles. After the damper was replaced and everything was reprogrammed per the latest greatest update, it does exactly the same thing. Dealer is aware, Ford is aware, nobody has a fix. They feel it's more software related than mechanical, but must not be a priority for Ford to fix, plus it only happens in N. Of course I haven't had my vehicle since the end of January because I have the dreaded Deep Sleep Mode issue with the 12v battery going dead overnight. But that's another story of Ford not having it's priorities in order since that issue has been going on since the 4G Escape hit the street 3 years ago and it's still going on with the Escape and the Maverick.

Its to bad you got a "lemon". I say this all the time, but seeing threads like this just reaffirms my decision on going with the 2.0 EB and not the hybrid. Trade her in and move on. Good luck.
