In TSB 22-2493 for the P0402 code and/or Brake-Grab, they mention to update software and replace the EGR sensor (only if code P0402 is present). I'm no mechanic, but what does the EGR sensor have to do with hybrid brakes? Was this supposed to be 2 different TSBs?
Yes, it should be two different TSBs. But instead it’s two things in one TSB that’s poorly worded.

In a nutshell, they’re only supposed to order the EGR valve and do that if you have a code, and they’re supposed to only do the brake thing if the customer reports it as a problem. *sigh*

Could the shaking be causing a knock sensor to be adjusting timing and inadvertently causing a misfire?

Dude thank you! It does sound like the transmission so maybe this is it.
Mine is a 2022 ordered in March of 2021 and received it in October 2022. The truck didn't start making the disturbing sound until the weather got so cold that I began remote starting it with the Ford Pass. It was at that time that I noticed it (you can't miss it). I've gotten the same result starting it with the key and I've also noticed that when it's put into reverse, it "slams" into gear but the noise stops so I'm suspecting it is transmission related. It's presently at the dealership for the second time for the same problem and I had sent some of these posts to my service advisor who said he doesn't believe it has anything to do with it but feels it an "object" bouncing around in the engine compartment! I guess eventually the truck will have to be taken into the dealership on the back of a flatbed tow truck. Still dealing with this issue but I feel members of the Maverick Truck Club will solve this problem before Ford does.

I’ve talked to a few people with the same issue and replacing the damper fixed the problem. That is what my dealer is doing for me but after 1 month it’s still there. Not sure what the hold up is. I’m noting a trend that there’s a lack of good ford service departments. I’ve never had a good experience at any that I’ve tried. Good luck but I can assure you it’s the damper.

I think it is.
I have the shudder quite a lot.
Almost always, or always, when the gas engine is shutting off.

It's worse if I'm gently accelerating (using battery power) during a shut down.

It's worse if I'm gently braking (regen) during an engine shut down.

It's there but more mild if I'm simply coasting during a shut down.

BY FAR the most violent (and I mean violent like a 7.0 Earthquake - I'm an Earth Scientist, so have a good idea of what that means) was right AFTER a full throttle burst, then a shut down.

I had to accelerate VERY briskly to make a lane change in time to make a freeway transition then had to sustain braking (which shut off the engine) in the 55 mph range and it shook like I had 2 or 3 flat tires, at the same time, at 55 mph. It was probably my first time at full throttle / full power since owning the truck.

I think there is merit to this being caused by the clutch/damper assembly.

I know I’m not alone with this issue as I’ve seen it reported in many peoples hybrids, mostly in cold climates. Please post here to this thread if you are having the following issue and any fixes and attempts your dealer has made. Maybe we can use this as a guide to hopefully fix what is becoming a more common problem.
Here’s the issue. When in park and idling I get a very rough and loud idle. Engine shakes and clunks and but goes away once put into gear. May or may not have had a check engine light indicating a misfire. (Mine did) I’ve included videos of mine for reference.
I want to get this fixed but my dealer as well as Ford are stumped and maybe this could help people. I am growing frustrated with this vehicle and if not resolved will be trading it in. I want to like it so this is a last ditch effort.
If possible please pin this.

I think the biggest clue is it stops when put in gear. That leads me to believe the damper is rattling without a load on it. Loose rivets is probably the culprit. The solution is a new damper with stronger/tighter rivets.

Man Im sorry your having to wait. did you get a loaner or rental ? Seems like it could be possible they are waiting for Ford to get an updated part ? Have you talked to the service manager ? I know dealerships are backed up due to the lack of help but come on. Hopefully this will be over soon for you.

I do have a loner luckily. The wait is just excessive. They apparently have all the parts and have had them for a couple weeks.

No excuses for dealerships however seems that to be the norm everywhere.

Update: they finally started the repair today. Not sure how long it will take but my guess is atleast a week. They will also be doing the airbag recall while it’s there. Hoping I can get it back next week.

You were right. My service advisor called today and they were finally able to duplicate the issue and when they called Ford to ask for guidance, they were advised to start with replacing the damper. Obviously Ford is aware of this problem and should make it known to their dealers because there will be more Maverick owners bringing in their trucks for the same problem. Anyways, thanks for the info!

I’m glad to hear it. Ford will never release a recall or even a TSB for this. It would cost them a fortune. Sad but true. Glad yours is getting fixed.

Another week passed and no further updates. The only update I got was on the recalled airbags. They supposedly can’t get them so I’m skipping it. I don’t plan to keep this thing very long so I’m not too worried about getting that done. For those keeping track it’s been 5 weeks since I dropped it off. I contacted ford regarding the buyback program today and waiting to be contacted back. At this point I don’t even want the truck back. My best advice for those waiting to receive their truck or be able to order one is to walk away. These trucks are cheap for a reason and when something does go wrong there’s no parts to fix them. Seriously don’t buy one, I wish someone told me this a few months ago.

My dealer swapped plugs and adjusted the cams. I've been remote starting all week, no tractor mode idle yet... Not convinced its fixed though, but time will tell.

I'm pretty sure Ford will release a TSB eventually.
