I am constantly amazed by the miles people put on their vehicles. I think mileage based taxes and fees will be coming soon, especially if this electric vehicle trend continues.
Yes they are. For years In Texas at annual inspection the milage has been gathered. It is my understanding that the milage tax has not been implemented due to some restrictions on federal distribution of highway/road money. If funds were collected by milage tax and not gasoline tax the states would lose some of all federal disbursements.

After spending too much time reading this post, I suggest to the OP & any others who may experience this problem, is to not replace the heat exchanger, & if it is leaking coolant remove the 2 coolant hoses from it & use a hose barb to connect them. Let the next owner or a dealer its traded to, replace it. The exception to this would be if it causes a failed emissions inspection because of a CEL.
NOT an option. The heat exchanger is used to either directly or indirectly through an additional heat exchanger to warm the HVTB which needs to get to 72°F in order to charge/discharge adequate amperage for Regen and traction. I believe it has electrical power to it or maybe the possible additional heat exchanger does to heat the battery "coolant" faster than the ice and the exhaust can operating alone. Someone posted over a year ago that they thought their were almost forty error codes just for the coolant system. If this exchanger is bypassed it will result in a much longer time for the HVTB to be used at design capacity.

That sucks especially with that expensive of a repair. I know many people don't like buying extended warranties but something many should consider for the Maverick, especially the Hybrid. Ford ESP is not extremely expensive. Just one repair like this could easily pay for the warranty.
If you live in Florida, it is expensive. Florida has a law that won't let you buy an ESP from a dealer in another state. In Florida it costs around $2500, Flood Ford is at least $1000 less!

With all the non-durable technology in autos today, the three year replacement plan would be best.
If Ford can't do better than this, I'm really questioning keeping my hybrid if I ever get it. I've had two Prius's with no such problems and have run them to 100K/ten years with only normal minimum maintenance as recommended by the book.

Well please by all means go ahead and inform your dealer that you no longer want the truck cause you read on a forum someone had a problem with a part on their truck that due to them being over 36K and not having a extended warranty they had to pay for a repair.

BTW I went over to the Prius Forum - https://priuschat.com/forum/ and did a quick search and believe it or not there were HUNDREDS of posts about folks Prius vehicles that had something break, fail, have to be replaced unlike your 2 prior vehicles yet, I also did not see anyone say - "Oh man, I ordered a Prius but because you had a problem I question if I should have ordered one" ..... weird- I guess that is the strange thing about forums, way more folks will complain than complement  .......

Batteries do not like being cold. The heat exchanger exists to warm the battery to 72F. I really do not understand how this is not covered under the hybrid system's warranty. It is a part of the battery management system. Failure will cause shortened battery life and potentially, failure. Parts wise, it is an exhaust component. Does the emission system work without it?

It does bring up a good point about hybrid drivetrains. A lot of complexity without a whole lot of benefit.

The "killer app" is never having to go to a gas station. The additional time, freedom and ease of getting your energy from home, or work, or any number of different sources. My Maverick is, after almost two years of waiting, about to be built. However, I am looking at a Tesla Model Y and wondering why (if the seats fold down to make a similarly sized storage area) not.

I'll probably buy and love the Maverick. But if they made a 100% EV truck that was Maverick sized and not priced at $98,000.00 (as the beautiful Lightning Platinum I saw today is) I'd buy an EV truck.

I think this MAY be a viable option to those like me in California who are always in above freezing conditions.

Being "optimal" is a bunch of hyperbole because your battery does not need to be "optimal" it just needs to be warm enough. And 40 degrees is warm enough.

And while heat improves output, cool but not frozen improves longevity.

The battery will heat itself in a matter of minutes in stop n go conditions which is why 90% of the time the battery needs cooling. There are gains to be had from warming. But majority of drivers don't need battery warming. It's a nice to have, but not a must have.

Most Ford Service Directors have a self governed abilty to offer some level of goodwill for a repair. You should talk to him about that.

Posting this as a caution to anyone considering a hybrid. This is concerning the heat exchanger which seems to be a common issue. I took delivery of my truck 3-28-2022. Around September with 20,000 miles I had an appointment scheduled for an engine shield recall. Days before my appointment, I began to get notifications in the app that battery power was low and all remote systems were disabled. Dealer found no issue causing this. Now at 38,000 miles, I have a check engine light with codes 237c and 237d. The cause was deemed to be the heat exchanger in the hybrid system (GREAT! Should be under the hybrid system warranty). Wrong. Sent home with the vehicle and told it is safe to drive. After speaking with the warranty department, I’m on my own for a $1500 repair on a part that should be covered under warranty. I have a shake at idle that started when the check engine light came on also. I was told that sometimes they’d offer to cover the cost based on circumstances but since I’m not a loyal ford customer, I’m out of luck. Mind you, I’m 26 and this is my first new vehicle ever owned. Just beware that after the 36,000 mile warranty, it’s a crapshoot whether anything (including power train) will be covered. Despite being maintained based on the maintenance schedule and services being done at the dealer, ford doesn’t care. Mine will be for sale after this repair and I’ll be Toyota shopping again based on solely customer service. My dealer’s service manager told me that this seems to be a common theme with ford’s warranty department in the last year. He told me that they thought it would be covered without question and he even requested it be covered again to no avail.
I don’t see this vehicle making it to 100,000 miles without extensive repairs and costs.
Take it to another ford dealer, sometimes the way a dealer diagnoses a problem cause it to be turned down for warranty coverage. I had a Ford truck that the engine developed a bottom end tapping at just a few miles short of the 5/60,000. One dealer said no, lucky I had enough miles left to get it to another dealer they said yes didn’t even tear it down and told me to go ahead and drive it until new engine came in. I asked what about going over the 60,000 miles as it was that close they said not to worry and when engine arrived I was over not a problem. Four days later my truck had a new engine.

The OP has 38K miles and is beyond the basic warranty. The heat exchanger apparently is not covered under the 100K hybrid component warranty. Look earlier in the thread. I still think that Ford should cover this as it seems to be a frequently defective part.
I would complain that they should've replaced it the first time the code came up. It's a super common issue. I would talk to some higher ups.

I've almost pulled that Rivian trigger a couple of times. Two years from order to delivery has put me off, as well as the extreme weight of the vehicle. The Munro tear down suggested it was still somewhat hand built & entirely over-built. Still, there were some wire and cooling routing decisions that appeared iffy and the quad motor - while cool, is more than I'd ever want. I'd prefer lighter weight & easier charging. Overall, the Lightning really is a better truck, IMHO.

The Model Y is the perfect all-rounder for most families; features, size, performance, easy charging, etc ...

But back to Maverick. Ford should cover this battery heater (heat exchanger). Not sure why it would cost $1,500. It is a $15 heater valve with a steel butterfly valve. Wonder what is breaking on these and if they can simply be repaired.

This YT'er says this is covered under the hybrid warranty (but obviously dealers make this call).

Be interesting to see how Ford has updated these.

If I ever get the Maverick Hybrid I ordered I'll trade it in or sell it before the 36,000 mile mark
That is my plan at this point. I had planned on a long-term ownership with this vehicle.

Unfortunately, the frustration continues:
I have had my electrical issues unsuccessfully evaluated at two Ford dealerships and it persists.
I really don't like never having interior illumination and having to rely on my Noco jump box to get moving. That, and the botched airbag recall have about sealed the deal.

With all the hybrid problems I keep seeing, I’m glad I decided to go Ecoboost AWD. Yes, I don’t get the mpg hybrid owners are getting. Just mid 30s but so far 14K miles and no problems other than the annoying squeaks/rattles that seems to plaque all Mavericks.
