Been calling my dealership since January about every two weeks. They keep telling me parts are on order and they'll call me when the parts are received. I even chatted with Ford and they said parts are available. I explained the situation with the dealership and was told Ford can't do anything because they are a privately owned dealership????
After reading the posts, not sure I want to have the work done. Problem is; it's the damn airbags, not the sunglass holder or something trivial.

Didn't finish yesterday because it's their first swap out and they are going slow. Somewhere between Fords instructions and reality they are using mine for training. I think He said Ford gave them 6 hours .

The airbag issue is not a safety issue it's a government issue. The bags are 10mm to long and that dimension was not used to pass testing. They will work fine and are safe just not what passed all the crash test and such. The vendor pays for the swap out which is a LOT less than retesting and having 2 different sized bags. If they weren't fine you would have your truck held for parts. Technicalities.

I don't know the specifics of the recall and what the defined risk is. But I have to agree that it should be measured against the very real risk of new trouble from having it done. I personally would not be in a hurry to get this recall done unless it were truly life and limb on the line. I would rather have a service tech do a hundred of them before mine rather than be one of the first five he gets to finger bang trying to find his away around a Maverick for the first time
Agreed.

What does this mean practically?

Incorrect, it's not that the airbag is dimensionally too large or "deploy too much" or whatever (I've seen multiple people claim this so I don't know where it's circulating). The FMVSS 226 standard test involves deploying the side airbag and a simulated headshape strikes it in 4 target locations with a specified amount of force. The amount by which the impactor deflects past the plane of where the window would be is measured. As tested the in production Maverick airbags exceeded the standard's allowed amount of deflection.

For some idea of what the test looks like:

In a perfect world waiting would make a lot of sense for this recall due to the technicality of the entire headliner and side panels needing to be removed and re-installed on a cheaply produced truck. But just waiting for the sake of hoping you get someone that has done 50 of these might not make the most sense since you do not actually know in most cases what random tech is going to get into your rig. Could be the guy that could do these recalls in his sleep left for another job and you get Oil finger Timmy from lube n tune to step in and hope for the best.

My dealer had done 4-5 of these in the past two months, had a legit shop foreman and I had high confidence as I am waiting for the parts to come in. Things changed in that time as the Foreman got transferred to another Non/Ford dealer and my main service tech got moved to Fleet only.

My “new” advisor did say yeah two days minimum on this service and when they called two days later about the broken headliner clip, he did mention Ford didn’t do anyone any favors in the way those clips are mounted and the challenging access.

All in all my seat belts retract, no airbag notification error, most small gaps I pushed into place last night after wiping things down, no new rattles and all that is left now is to blue corral clean the headliner.

Fun times -

Took my truck to my dealer last Wednesday for this recall. After the recall was completed, the interior was destroyed. Front seatbelts not working right. Grease on the headliner and all pillars. Broken overhead console (dealer replaced), a broken grab handle (also dealer replaced), and other issues. Reading this thread has given me a lot of perspective into how hit-or-miss the installation can be. A week later and there are still issues getting ironed out. Dealer has been working hard to right the situation though, and I think we are almost there. Sounds like things could have been quite a bit worse, despite the issues I had.

I took my truck in because I've been having problems with the drivers side door handle not responding to touch to lock/unlock. Took it to the dealership, they said we'll have to order a new one. So, while there, I said, could we also take care of the airbag recall. They said "Sure, no problem. We'll order the necessary parts for that and the door handle. We can take care of it all at the same time"
The parts came in. I scheduled an appointment for February 21. They said they'd have it done by the end of the day. Got a call later that day. "We're very sorry, but we couldn't complete either repair. The door handle they sent us was the wrong color. (My truck is black, the handle was silver) And they didn't send us enough connectors for the airbag recall, so we have to wait on them to come in. We've reassembled everything and you can bring it back when we get the additional parts. We'll take care of both issues then"
I'M STILL WAITING!!!!
I even switched dealerships after the GAS TANK fiasco. That was also a "missing parts" issue.
This is probably my first and only FORD. I love the truck but GEEZ
I did get my state inspection FREE tho because of the inconvenience.

Yes, but again, what does that mean?

FWIW if yours was manufactured before May 2022 it may not be the handle itself but the BCM programming. Have your dealer check SSM 50939.

Other than my dealer's usual inability to complete work in a reasonable amount of time, mine went smoothly. If I don't get a YETI mug though, I'm going to RAGE
Received my YETI today so I am no longer prepared to rage.

My drivers side seat belt didn’t work right after getting the recall done.
Just got mine back and my seat belt feels super stiff. What was the outcome for you?

I took it back to the dealer and they fixed it. Not sure what was actually done to fix it though
