I've been debating which tires to buy and dropped a couple of options into a sheet to compare and then figured I might as well put a bunch more images in as maybe it will be helpful to others when choosing tires.

I did my best to gather the correct tire and size information but if any of these are your truck and I got it wrong please let me know.

Has anyone tried a 255/70/17 tire, like a Toyo Open Country AT3? I searched the whole forum and haven't seen any of them except for one mention of maybe trying them, but no confirmed photos or info. It is a 31.1" tall tire and it seems like it might work well with a 2" suspension lift without beating the wheel well in. Any opinions from anyone or confirmed applications of this size of tire?

You will definitely have to modify the pinch weld and liner with a 31.1" tire......even with a 2 inch lift.

It seems weird to me a 245/70/17 (30.5" tall x 9.6" wide) fits on a stock suspension with maybe a bit of rubbing but a 255/70/17 (31.1" tall x 10" wide) with a 2" lift wouldn't fit, but I suppose the extra 7/16" of width might cause rubbing when turning lock to lock

When I say the 245/70R17 is close I mean it's thin sliced deli close. The Toyos are undersized from the factory at least in the 245/70R17 size which is why they fit.

Was scrolling through hoping to maybe see my truck, then realized these are all 17’s 😭😭🤣 (wait, wrong again, there’s one set of 18s, but those are 235/50 and mine are 235/60)
Yeah that guy with 18 inch wheels is putting way more miles on his truck because of the smaller diameter making the odometer think it’s traveling farther and we’ll I have a pair of focus st wheels I’m throwing on Goodyear wrangler workhorse A/T in 245/60R18

The more I read the more I get unsure of which direction to go. Help and suggestions will be highly appreciated.
Hybrid XLT here, will keep the OEM rims. Will not be lifting or dropping. Just want a wider and more aggressive tire profile for appearance and performance.
Torn between 235 vs 245. Will prefer 245, if there is no rubbing or mods needed. How much mpg loss am I looking at for 235 vs 245? Mostly will be road driving with 15-20% gravel road. Nothing crazy off roading.
Will 245's fit without any rubbing or mods?
If yes, which tire to choose.
Have been reading up on Falkens, Toyo, Firestone, Nokian, Dextero
Live in PA. Mostly flat, snow is not an issue. So mostly for dry road and some wet conditions.
What did you end up doing? I have 245/65 17 nitto nomad grapplers being put on tomorrow...

Looks good @MikeyMeatballs! How do the larger Nomad Grappler's feel on your Maverick?
@DryFlyGuy and @Discount Tire -- its been two days and about 100 miles on all pavement. These are quite lightweight for a bigger, more aggressive tire - designed for a CUV or something like the maverick. That said, MPG hit seems negligible, no discernable increase of road noise. No rubbing. All on completely stick hybrid XLT, no lift.

I really like these things so far. Definitely a game changer in how the mav looks.

I had also been looking at Falken AT trails but ultimately decided on these. Hope my two cents helps yall!

Cactus Gray XL Hybrid.
Owned since December 2021.

Just got 17" Borbet Type Y wheels in Titanium Matte finish and Falken Wildpeak Trails in 225/65/17.

Love the upgraded look from OEM steelies.
Truck feels more stable and planted while driving, but not sluggish.

Factory Continental Procontact TX new tread is only 8/32nds and was down to 5/32nds with 28,000 miles on odometer.
Nice rain the other day and didn't feel very confident at that tread depth anymore.

Falken Wildpeak Trails in 225/65/17 start with 11/32nds tread depth.

No lift, no rubbing at all.

Tire is heavier (OEM 24 lbs vs Falken Trails 30 lbs) , but saved weight on steelies vs lighter wheels (27.2 lbs steelies vs 21.2 lbs Borbet).

So no change in total overall wheel/tire weight, but likely slightly more rolling resistance.

I have not noticed a difference in mpg yet, but expect maybe 1 mpg loss at most since driving home and around town already. Feels like such a safety improvement over oem.

Nice and quiet on road and highway.
I can't hear a difference in road noise/tire noise at all, so that's great.

Ordered from Tirerack.com and installed at Discount Tire.

Was going for the look of OEM XLT gray rims, but hard to find XLT rims in my area.

Love this setup and combo!

I plan to run 235/80r17’s on my new Maverick Tremor with the Ford Ranger lifts 1.75” kit. Due to the fact that I plan to go off-road frequently. They’re tough LT tires 🛞 & I shouldn’t need flares to protect my paint. If I need to trim the pinch weld it should be fairly minimal. Most are 31.8” actual height.

should it ever come in, lol! Ordered 1/3/23’ It was one of my chosen dealership’s pre-existing allocations which they gave me.
