Chaps me a bit that every person walking away is just a bonus for the dealers -- they're not gonna cancel any orders, they'll take delivery and add markups, it's a win-win to have people walk. The order process then seems like a strange sort of bait and switch. There is NO downside for the dealer -- plenty for the turned-away customer. I know much/most of this is actually out of the hands of the dealers, but still...... just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I wanted the last vehicle I ever buy to be a good experience -- what a pipe dream.
Given the backlog, I think my dealer will just cancel my order if I walk. No vehicles are actually making it to the public anyway as passed over Mavericks are offered to their "too late" list at MSRP. The only vehicle I have ever seen them mark up was their first Lightning and they even have a slightly used one of those on offer under book.

In some areas, the market is coming down.

Not where I am. My local has 4 Mavs on their lot right now, all with $6-9k markups. The number they have on hand changes every couple weeks, they seem to be turning them over at that price. If the market is coming down or moderating, it just hasn't hit near me yet (though, admittedly, I live in a rather affluent area, there are plenty of folk here with the spare change to pay that kind of markup. I'm just not one of them.)

Interestingly, I was just perusing my dealer's used inventory and they do have a hybrid XL and it is marked up (with a discount then added for some reason). But I also see one of their other dealerships has a used EB at book.

So, they may punt my order simply to reduce the number of outstanding EBs so they can get to the more profitable hybrids.

To clarify: I haven't cancelled yet. They have until late April to schedule it before I make a decision either way.

What would change? The factory would still be there and they still would have the same people running it
Nothing immediate but if you look at the rollout of all the recent new products it's clear that there have been major failures. The popularity of the bronco, maverick and lightening should have left ford rolling in cash. Instead we have tens of thousands potential customers sitting around waiting for deliveries that may never come. Who's to blame? The line worker? Dealer? Enginer? I say no. CEO has to go. I'm fairly confident the board is having this discussion with major shareholders

Ford is making more Mavericks for the US than Rangers. They're building significantly more than Hyundai builds Santa Cruzes, and Hyundai considers the Santa Cruz a massive success.

It's literally the opposite of a failure. Scaling industry up to meet higher demand is expensive and risky. It takes time, but Ford is doing it. Does it suck that it takes forever to get one? Yes. I waited 504 days to get mine. Could they be doing better with communication? Also yes. From a personal perspective it can very much suck.

But from a business perspective? Ford is doing very well.

They are already scheduled a ways out, maybe not wanting to schedule to far out then have to start pushing dates back again. Could be stockpiling parts also so they can blow out a Poop load of them once the current schedule is handled.

Or Not.
I wonder if they could be having some issues... I've went from being scheduled for the last week of March to April 17th (according to chatting with Ford since the tracking system is crap)...it seems like there are a fair number of people in the same position.

They should order their Splash Guards from FORD Accessories online. I got mine in a week. It's amazing you can purchase constraint items from Ford?

Yeah, Ford literally had its best year since before the pandemic and that is including the shortages.

That said, I'm starting to see inventory at local dealerships starting to linger with discounts. Interest rates may be starting to take their toll.

Very true. But interest rates are going to hit the entire auto industry equally.

They are. All of my local dealerships are sitting on inventory longer. One year ago, most had no vehicles. Now, almost all are at or above capacity. It has slowed.

No scheduling does not equal no production. They are scheduled out to 17 April now? You can only plan so far in advance.

Stop being reasonable like that. This is an internet forum. 😁

It does increase the possibility of scheduling next week as they will only be a month out at that point.

I've never ordered a vehicle before but I think in the past the number of special ordered vehicles was a low percentage of vehicles built. So special order people got exactly what they wanted and the majority went to dealers so they had stock to sell. I'm sure the dealers are ticked that they are not getting inventory to sell. Of course dealers get the sales on our vehicles but most of those are at MSRP or below and at the Maverick price points I don't think they are making much. I suspect Ford will start building more trucks for inventory and slowing the special order builds so dealers can have inventory on their lots for spring and summer.

Well shucks... 3/9/23 is exactly 500 days for me, so I was hoping for some magic.
