I have a hybrid for about two month. Great small pickup car. I used to love it by the time i stock in snow driving uphill. Than, i felt embarrassed and powerful, my maverick Hybrid love start to fade. (something like this - you got the drama. 😥 )
Next, I got home and asked myself. Why I got 2WD ? I always had AWD or 4x4. my answer was simple. I wanted to save money. I wanted a car under 20k that takes 42 mpg. I WAS WRONG.
I should have put those numbers in excel before i purchase hybrid. i could pay 5k more and get ecoboost 4x4 option and spend extra
$2,604 in fuel per 100k.
I assumed cost per gallon in $3.50. Driving hybrid 100k miles will cost $8,333 on EB 100k $10,937. Depending how and where you drive what are your calculations? Why would you choose EB vs Hybrid or Hybrid vs EB? Thank you!

I filled up for $2.34/gal yesterday near the house suburban Houston area. Saw it for a dime cheaper on the way to Dallas.

I don't make major purchases with the fluctuations of commodity costs being the main driver. Buying a hybrid mainly because fuel is current more expensive isn't a great idea. Nothing wrong with a hybrid, but if it's not the choice to make at $2.50/ gallon probably not the choice to make at $4.50/gallon.
If you drive by Waxahachie, stop by I would love to see a hybrid before I buy one LOL

I get 23mpg in my Lariat 4k FX4. I drive 65mph on the highway and relaxed in the streets. I'm also on 245s so maybe that would be 25mpg with stock sized tires. Tbh I don't really care anymore, it's still 10-12mpg more than my old f150. I gave up on trying to hypermile it. Just drive normal and let it be

I hope everything works out for you and that you don't get stuck anymore.

You need AWD, you need AWD. 🤷‍♂️

I know it's been said, but improved tires are recommended for snow and ice.

I doubt that your going to get 32mpg if you're averaging 42 with the hybrid. Even so, I doubt that those numbers will stay that way through 100,000.

Furthermore, the total cost of ownership should be considered. (Up front, gas, insurance, oil/fluids, brakes, etc.). I bet the savings/value equation world be more compelling. That said, worth it? Only you can decide for you.

Also, if you decide to go awd, I'm sure that #1. You can find one available and #2. There's someone out there who'd happily take that hybrid off your hands. 😁

Numbers: 1 month, 1000 miles

Hybrid: 1000/45mg*3.50 = $77.77
EB: 1000/25*3.50 = $140

diff = $62/month. Chane th enumbers and it moves around a bit but it'll be close.

Will it change your life? No, but you could have a fine bottle fo scotch once a month with the savings.

Happy to swing by sometime... But I don't have mine yet and when it comes it'll be an EB.

My previous ride until a month ago was a V6 Edge. Thing could move, but averaged 22 mpg with a decent bit of highway. So EB will still be a decent improvement. I'm driving my wife's old Altima. Thing got like 35 mpg going to Dallas. I'm used to rolling into Dallas looking for a gas station with my Edge. The Altima still had over a half tank.

snow tires will not help where i live. it is too much uphill for snow tires. i tried on different car.
I set up a full set of winter tires for my XLT, FWD ecoboost a few weeks ago. Now that winter has hit full on, my experience is that these are a massive improvement over the stock tires. Not a little better...but fully transfomational. I always prefer a well set up FWD car to a AWD car in modest amounts of snow (8" or less), but this really changes the game.

FWIW...I set up Bridgestone Blizzak WS90 on 2nd hand steelies with Autel MX (TPMS) sensors. This way I can swap them back and forth seasonally with no hassles.

Costs more to fix
My agent said his customer with a damaged Mav hybrid was told no telling when parts are available. After waiting 8 months already. What did the insurance co do? Cut off his rental car after 30 days and said he is in his own. Refused to total it. But, didn’t give him higher rates for the hybrid.

Blizzak. What did people do before when all cars were rear wheel drive? They got snow tires.

Go get snow tires, dude.
Hmmmmm! I live near Austin TX, am retired. Thinking I will forgo snow tires and hibernate the 4-12 snow/icy days each winter

I'm in a hilly area south of Buffalo NY. So far my hybrid Maverick in Blizzaks is doing great in the snow!

The OEM tires don't have much tread on them to start with.....I wouldn't expect them to be great in AWD vehicle either in real winter weather.

Best to get some good winter tires. If you don't want to swap tires 2x a year.....there are some all-weather tires that are much better than all-seasons in the snow.

Are you all sure about the 4-wheel RV tow? The guide specifically states that 4-wheel is not an option and only FWD can be dolly towed.
https://www.fleet.ford.com/content/...2023_Ford_RVandTrailerTowingGuide_r1_Dec1.pdf (pg. 15 and 16)

The ONLY Maverick that can be flat towed ( all four wheels on the ground for extended mileage) is the Hybrid. Very clearly stated in the owners manual ( including the 2023 version ) and in the chart listed above. The "1,2,3" listed is about the process you have to go through in the menu to ready it for flat/rv towing. The front wheel drive Ecoboost Maverick CANNOT be flat towed, 8 speed automatic transmission won't allow it.
The Hybrid Maverick is indeed listed for tow dolly ( front wheels on dolly ). The front wheel drive Ecoboost should be on that list, probably an oversite by Ford. I have not heard of a front wheel drive vehicle that cannot be towed on a tow dolly with front wheels on dolly.
None of the All Wheel Drive Mavericks can be flat towed or tow dolly towed as they come from the factory. This applies to the Escape Hybrid and Ecoboost also.
