I have a hybrid for about two month. Great small pickup car. I used to love it by the time i stock in snow driving uphill. Than, i felt embarrassed and powerful, my maverick Hybrid love start to fade. (something like this - you got the drama. 😥 )
Next, I got home and asked myself. Why I got 2WD ? I always had AWD or 4x4. my answer was simple. I wanted to save money. I wanted a car under 20k that takes 42 mpg. I WAS WRONG.
I should have put those numbers in excel before i purchase hybrid. i could pay 5k more and get ecoboost 4x4 option and spend extra
$2,604 in fuel per 100k.
I assumed cost per gallon in $3.50. Driving hybrid 100k miles will cost $8,333 on EB 100k $10,937. Depending how and where you drive what are your calculations? Why would you choose EB vs Hybrid or Hybrid vs EB? Thank you!

Plug in $6 gas and see what your numbers show. I think a lot of people made the buying decision when gas was a lot higher than it is now. Will it go back up? No idea, I hope not.

I bought the hybrid because of the gas mileage. If it came in AWD I would have got that but for me AWD is not all that important. I've driven FWD vehicles in snow and ice my whole life and with good snow tires I don't really get the need for AWD. It's nice but not needed.

Curious if you are running the stock all season tires or snow tires?

Do you drive mostly city miles, if so, I believe the ecoboost numbers are lower than 32?

I have stock tires. it is base xl model with 360 and towing option. i think i will be driving another AWD car this winter and change for better tires in fall 2023. not sure about winter tires though. i will try to deflate to 32 psi and see if i can get better grip.

My EB gets 27 mpg overall and its AWD/4k. 100k miles at $3.50 is $12,962 so a bigger differential than you are showing which stops at 32 mpg but I don't really care what gas costs and love what I have. Historically speaking I will probably sell it at the 3-5 year point which is before I get 100k miles on the clock.

Gas will continue to fluctuate forever but especially while it is the primary fuel for transportation.

I'm surprised we're currently seeing $2.50 gallons of 87 in Columbus, OH (average is under $3/gal). Was it always going to be $5? Will it always be $2.50? Nope.

People get hung up on...."25-30% more efficient" than an Ecoboost but that efficiency needs relativity, and that as OP states is really dependent on how much you drive and the cost of gas when you drive. The reality is - the hybrid saves you money but if you assume 15k miles per year that is roughly 7 years to hit 100k miles and you divide your savings over that time you're looking at about $400 annually or about $30-$35 per month.

Relative is also what that savings means to someone. $35 to some might be a lunch where as $35 to others could be a significant monthly savings.

I always try to equate it to vacations. $400/yr is about 1/3rd of a week rental at our beach house and as you point out - is probably not worth the savings.

However I was all in on the $23k XL Hybrid - it's just too bad Ford never intended to really make it.

The trim level that got me interested in Mavs (XL Hybrid) is a far cry from the one that I'll end up taking home (Tremor XLT) but that is also the appeal of the Maverick to me as well - versatility.

Dang, really??? Fuel mileage? You should all drive what I drive… a 32’ class C motor home, E450 chassis, v-10 triton. On a good day, 9 mpg. But the real reason we want the hybrid is because it is flat towable behind the motor home where the EB can not be. It has to be on a tow dolly or a trailer… in the mean while while we wait on it, we are driving and towing our 2007 Honda CRV.

probably, and the more highway miles, the hybrid gets into the low 30s, it's in their nature.

Car and Driver https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a39539233/ford-maverick-hybrid-fuel-economy-tested/
"On our 75-mph highway fuel-economy test route, the truck managed 30 mpg. While driving around town we regularly saw 40 mpg or over, according to the Maverick's onboard computer. The all-wheel drive nonhybrid Maverick we tested in late 2021, which was powered by the optional turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four, came close to the hybrid in our highway fuel-economy test by hitting 29 mpg."

I rarely drive in town, need AWD so the hybrid never got a second thought.

Blizzak. What did people do before when all cars were rear wheel drive? They got snow tires.

Go get snow tires, dude.
