Isn't that how it used to be for the most part? You decided you wanted a new car or truck and went to your local dealer and test drove a few to pick out what you would be happiest with and then bought whatever was best pick they had on the lot....

I am 50 years old and have bought a ton of new cars and trucks over my lifetime and I have never before custom ordered a vehicle till the mess Covid created. The closest I have come to that was maybe finding a vehicle I really liked at a local dealer but wanted a different color and would have the dealer try to locate one in the color I wanted at a different dealer and them do a dealer swap so my dealer could sell me the one in the color I wanted.

It isn't like there is a ton of variation in Mavericks. 3 trim levels, two power trains, 2wd or 4wd, and color changes. It is a far cry from the variation in say a Ford Super duty or even F150.

I bet once we get to a point where there is minimal or no mark ups on unsold / unclaimed trucks and especially once you see used ones going for under MSRP at places like Carvana or Carmax, people will be able to find a maverick they can be happy with, even if it isn't what they would have ordered exactly

Of the 7 new cars I've bought, starting with the first one, a '92 5.0 Mustang, 5 of them have been special ordered. And one I would have ordered, but there happened to be just what I wanted at a nearby dealer. Cars don't have as many options as they used to, and trucks are moving that way quickly... But still, if I'm going to pay that much money for something, I want what I want, not what happens to be available. Especially since that usually entails paying for something that I really don't want. I will pay (and have paid) more to not have something that I don't want.
The people that are waiting, sometimes for many months, don't seem to be willing to settle in this case either.

Any idea on percentage of Maverick orders that forum members make up? I think that the current 11-12% number of people willing to switch could really make a difference in my chances of actually getting built.
Well, the statistics at the bottom of the main page say there are 20,000 members of this forum. You figure many have bailed or gotten a truck since Ford did make over 50,000 of them for MY22 (people tend to be less vocal when they are happy). That said, there were 77,800 new orders for MY23 still active in early November.

You would think the population of this forum is likely to be skewed to a certain degree towards the hybrid model. But if you look at the order tracking spreadsheet, the reported Hybrid-to-EB ratio is pretty damn close to Ford's reported numbers.

All that to say, I did the numbers yesterday. 11-12% of hybrids switching would equate to ~5,500 trucks or one additional month of EB orders and two months less hybrid orders. The odds would mathematically go up for the hybrids but there would still be a massive number that don't get built.

Anything to improve the odds, I've got the XL thing on top of that too! Seems maybe that's just a Ford desire, not a real constraint.

I mentioned in a couple of other posts this morning that I upgraded to FX4 and added SIBL/CMS to my order yesterday afternoon. I was talking to the sales guy about Hybrid vs EcoBoost orders and he was telling me that the guy that was in the office before me has a Hybrid order. The sales guy told him about the Hybrid constraints and the guy decided to stand pat with the Hybrid.

I guess I’m surprised but not surprised by the % of folks sticking with their Hybrid order.

I still have an older Ranger with low mileage and I will not spend the $26K for an XLT eco just to get a Maverick. That money will buy lots of fuel plus my CD's and cassettes will still be useful. I'm not sold on all this tech stuff.

After driving a hybrid for the last 8 years… i doubt i will ever buy another standard ICE vehicle. I just need something bigger than prius now.

I chose the EB from the get-go. Don't want/need a hybrid. Not here to save the planet and I don't give a shit what a gallon of gas costs.
What say it that way though ,not obliged to say how you feel on that matter , you really do care what fuel cost you🙅‍♂️

Price maverick is better , interior about the same to me .
I priced features as close to possible a Maverick XLT to my SC SEL. The Maverick was slightly over $33k and the SC was slightly over $32k. Maverick was 4wd, 4k tow, turbo..the SEL was AWD with tow and asperated engine. Had to add to the Maverick the following items that are standard on the SEL acoustic windshild NA, solar glass NA, trunk NA, co pilot 360, bedliner, upgraded paint, Ecoboost, AWD, XLT Luxury Pkg, 4k tow, theft prevention lock tailgate, power tailgate buffer NA, remote start, rear carpet floor mats NA. Maverick has more HP less MPG pretty damn close in features and the SEL was cheaper..and has a higher load capacity and standard tow unless you upgrade with 4k tow which is 500 pounds more then the SEL....upgrade to a limited and gain a 1000 pound advantage over the upgraded tow in the Maverick. Biggest advantage for the Maverick is spelled Hybrid...

as I said before I changed my Tim from xlt to xl with only cp 360
, a week ago , looks like I set back further posssibly , as the don’t want to build these less profitable ones , plus lost my place to new date ,like new build ,As I understand ,a new order, new date , new changed trim line . but I’m not sure how accurate I am just what
I understand Reading it.

I realize you are one of the most "helpful" members of the forum. However
Getting back on track:
Based on the poll results so far (and the numbers Ford provided in early November), the current number of people willing to change would only extend EB last order out one month and hybrid last order in two months. So, EBs would be done before the middle of June and the hybrids still won't be done before the end of the model year. (discounting allocation goofiness)

Ford will have to offer an incentive if they want more people to jump.
Highly, highly unlikely. They will either produce EB's for stock orders or have a mid-year price hike and then open the EB order bank again to meet production capabilities. My two cents!

Many, not all, rollovers last year were hybrid, so the hybrid constraint is a real thing. XL being a constraint? Doubtful. I think this is just an expectation on Ford's part. Surely Ford will try to build as many XL hybrids as they possibly can when they realize most people aren't going to switch. Better to make a little less profit than none at all. They did this last year, and I suspect they will do it again (building as many trucks as they could).

I don't disagree. But if Ford's intention was to get a large number of people to jump, they need a bigger incentive. Since people would rather take their chances with the hybrid, the incentive to jump to EB would almost have to offset any predicted fuel savings.
