I spoke to my dealer awhile back. I have a 22 hybrid XLT and ordered a 23 hybrid Lariat Lux. The 23 is for my wife so we would have two hybrids and that is the main driving force. We don't do any towing, just light truck stuff so the Mav works well for us. If we can't get the 23 Mav then would probably look at a CRV Hybrid or something similar, or full EV.
Anyway - my dealer said he believes that things are improving and he believes Ford will be opening up Mav order banks again later in the model year. He is a large dealer so he may have some insight into things or he could just be wishful thinking.
Stay away from the CRV Hybrid - real world mpg is just awful. Get a Rav4 Prime.

I made the switch when I ordered the 23. My 22 order was a hybrid and when talking to the inventory person at my store she suggested I go ahead with the Ecoboost if I want a higher chance of actually getting scheduled. Would have preferred hybrid, but at this point I just want the vehicle.

It seems to me that a lot of people don't know what they really want.

A lot of people on forums and FB groups claim that the reason they want a maverick in the first place is not the hybrid engine, but the small overall size and cheap price of the maverick ( in comparison to a bigger more expensive truck )

I am convinced that there are a lot of people who ordered mavericks that don't need a truck at all.

If most of the orders were from people that really needed a small truck, where a smaller SUV or even car wouldn't also suit their needs.... Then surely there would be a fair number of those people who would take a EcoBoost engine over the hybrid to insure they get what they NEED.... a small truck.

Sure the hybrid gets better MPG, but the EcoBoost gets decent MPG too.

I don't plan to switch to a EcoBoost to help my chances at getting a 2023 Maverick. But that is because I ordered 4 mavericks.... Ordered a Lariat and a XLT at one dealer, then ordered duplicates from another dealer. I want both trucks, but really only need one. So I, even with the constraints and percentages being thrown around, have a pretty good chance of getting one of the four trucks I ordered built. So no need to switch my order. But.... If I ordered only one truck, I would strongly consider switching my order, because I really need a small truck and the EcoBoost would do everything I need the truck to do, some things even better ( like towing ), and the only drawback would be 25-35 mpg vs 35-45 mpg.
Ecoboost gets horrible mileage in the city. My wife averaged 17MPG with her 2.0 EB escape. Big difference from 42 city. If you drive the highway a lot, the EB makes sense.

I chose the EB from the get-go. Don't want/need a hybrid. Not here to save the planet and I don't give a shit what a gallon of gas costs.
Why not just buy a Super Duty with the 7.3 gas engine then?
Why buy a little truck if fuel makes no difference?

I have a car that gets 6.8 mpg city/14 highway, and a van that gets 9 city/16 highway. Going from sub 10 mpg city to over 40 sure would be nice for the daily commute. I'd rather have no Maverick if I can't get the hybrid. Over 90% of my driving is stop and go city traffic.

A larger P/U does not fit my needs at this time in my life; e.g Ranger, Tacoma, F150, Super Duty. I've had full-size P/U's. This will be a general knock-around vehicle, perfect for Lowe's, rock, concrete, mulch etc. The EB version is what I desire, top fuel economy is not at the top of the list.

Getting back on track:
Based on the poll results so far (and the numbers Ford provided in early November), the current number of people willing to change would only extend EB last order out one month and hybrid last order in two months. So, EBs would be done before the middle of June and the hybrids still won't be done before the end of the model year. (discounting allocation goofiness)

Ford will have to offer an incentive if they want more people to jump.

I was running late.
It was freezing cold.
I had the heater going.
I hit 75 mph on my freeway section.
I punched it hard to beat a few yellow lights on my city section.
I made jack-rabbit starts.
I made a couple abrupt stops.
Not my normal self.
I did everything you're not supposed to do for great MPG.

I got 38.5 MPG today. My lowest ever.

Free 4X4 with EB switch might do it. Or they could just figure out how to ramp up supplies, by adding extra shifts or additional suppliers. They should've closed Hybrid orders after the 3rd day if orders were so overwhelming.

"Shoulda" won't fix the current problem. I say drop the price of the EB or throw in AWD for free.

I'm half convinced that if you take out all people like this who has 4+ orders to try to get one Maverick, that the order numbers would look a lot more close to being able to fulfill everyone's order.
Yes, no doubt. I am sure there are ALOT of people who ordered more than one. Mostly flippers. I thought on it a good bit, should I order just one or should I order more.... because obviously if I order more than I personally aim to own and drive then I could be holding up opportunity for others to get theirs.

I personally just want one truck. Thought I could talk my wife into getting the other but she doesn't want a little truck, she wants to stay with the SUV layout.

So my plan is to take the first build that is built ( pending any of the 4 get selected to be built ) and I could either cancel the remaining 3, or let them be built if they are built and let the dealer keep them for dealer stock.

Letting the dealer have it for dealer stock still allows someone who wants one to get one. Yes they will likely mark it up, but flip side is the person buying it doesn't have to wait. Heck I called my salesman at one of the dealers yesterday to just see if he had any info on my orders and he replied that he didn't have any info but They had just received a maverick off the transport that a different customer canceled on and it was a near exact match to what I ordered. They wanted 5 grand over sticker and he offered to go 4 grand over and I could have went there last night and bought it... verses waiting months or a year or even not getting one of the ones I ordered at all.

Heck, I gotta say that 4 grand mark up sucks but it was very tempting to just pull the trigger and get the thing. Only reason I didn't do it is I feel confident that the market will change on these in the next 6 months and they will start to depreciate like pre covid vehicles did, and I would be losing way too much money paying over sticker. But I could be wrong on that.

I should add to my post above, that, and this is just my opinion, I believe the times of people buying these and getting 5-10 grand over MSRP is quickly going to go away. How soon is hard to tell, but I believe it is coming.

It is already happening with the Ford Superduty, which last year was just as stressful and just as much of a mess as the mavericks, as far as demand for new superdutys and being able to get one. People were easily flipping new superduty trucks for 5-10 grand or more and today you would be lucky to get MSRP on a superduty. I think this same thing will happen with the maverick and soon.

Once we get to a point where you can't sell your new maverick to the dealer or carvana etc... for much of a profit, there will be no point in people trying to flip them. If that happens in the next few months, I bet there will be ALOT of the current ordered canceled, as I feel real sure there are hundreds if not thousands of people out there who ordered a small fleet of these trucks just to flip for a profit. When they see that they can't turn much of a profit on them, they will cancel their orders and the numbers will improve for everyone else who just wanted a truck to actually buy and drive.
