After being notified that our Maverick was on route I went online to CarMax and Carvana to see what our 2016 Mini Clubman w 64,500 miles would fetch.

CarMax offered $13,200.

Carvana offered $18,300.

Scheduled a pickup from Carvana a week later and the driver brought the $18,300 check. .. quick and easy.

We bought the Clubman in 2017 w 10k miles for $22,900.

I read today on Reddit that Carvana laid off something like 12% of their employees… yikes!!!

One thing to consider is the tax break you get from a trade in to the dealer as opposed to selling third party. If trade in value for your current vehicle is $15k then you'd have to sell it for about $1000 more third party to come out even.

In my state you get the tax savings either way as long as you fill out one form. You have 6 months to buy the replacement vehicle and then just pay tax on the difference.

I did just sell a honda and the dealer had been sending me letters every month saying how much they would pay me for it. They knew the exact vehicle because they knew the VIN. When it was time to sell it they were offering something like 32k but when I got to the dealer the offer was $27k. Took it to CarMax and they gave me $31.8k quick and easy. I checked Carvana and they were a little lower.

Ford told me $17,500 for my 2020 Corolla, but I just filled out carvana’s online quote system — they offered $21,200. My truck is being built end of Feb so I have some time. Anyone ever used Carvana? They just bring you a check?

Yes, Easy, good offer for my Sonata, handed me a check when they checked out my car, when out for dinner, car was gone when returned from dinner! Just follow the instructions when you accept there offer.

I bought my 2018 Honda Civic EX Hatchback (1.5T/CVT) for $18,000 as a CPO in 2019 with 27K miles on it. I traded it in for $20,000 with 57K miles on it. It was heavily modified, but I have a friend that is going to buy it (dealer is asking $23K) strip all the performance parts off and swap in OEM from their Civic then resell.

Dealer took our '04 Chevy Colorado as a trade-in. It still had less than 100,000 miles on it. Offered us $2000. Applied that as part of our down payment and never looked back. No regrets. Was easier than parking it in our front yard and selling it on our own.

Will be offloading both a 2004 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.7 V8 and a 2000 Corolla VE. We currently have four vehicles and gonna knock it down to three with the Maverick coming.

While I’m here, how old a vehicle will Carvana accept? CarMax seems like they’ll take vehicles no more than ten years old.
