I did exactly what eagle said in his instructions.
So that means you tapped the purple wire on the dome light. Correct?
If so, that has been found to not be a reliable 12v. The voltage on that wire varies based on what you have the dash lights dim setting at.
Even on max, mine was only about 9v. That is not enough to run the mirror.
Not sure why it works for some people.
That is why people tapped off the camera, or ran a fuse tap.
Those that have a moonroof, have an even better option.

Interesting, I have a moonroof but we chose not to tap those wires, I was afraid it could potentially mess up the moonroof, the video I watched to help assist with the installation, the guy had to choose a different wire to tap because it had messed up his moonroof operation somehow.

Do you know if the wiring colors are the same for the moonroof harness as they were for the dome light?

I do not have a moonroof, so I do not.
I recall seeing someone tapping into the moonroof though.
The moonroof should have an accessory 12v wire, since I believe you can operator the moonroof whenever acessory is on, and cannot when car is off.

I tapped into the dome light and everything on my mirror (compass, homelink, auto dimming) works just fine. Not sure why you're having that problem.

I measured the purple wire with a volt meter. As did another forum member. We both got different readings. Well below 12v.

Sorry, just now saw your post. I've had no issues with the mirror shutting down.
Did you do the install? How did it go?
It went fine. I tapped constant power, not the purple/white because I didn’t want issues with interior lighting.

What I meant in my post was that the truck turns off the mirror in about 15 minutes after I shut it down. That’s good. We weren’t sure if it would keep it powered up for 2 hours or more.

I think you did the wiring smart. Like you said, ovoids any interior lighting issues. Yes, the mirror turns off along with all the other accessories in about 15 minutes.

Thanks for posting. I'm sure your post has given others a bit of confidence to go ahead and install the mirror electronics by going down to the fuse panel. I would add if one is going to attempt this to invest in plastic tools to help remove the pillar covering. Available at Harbor Freight.
https://www.harborfreight.com/automotive/auto-body-trim/trim-and-molding-tool-set-5-piece-64126.html

Yes plastic tools are a good option, but the pillar cover was very easy to remove by hand (at least on mine). Just a slight tug starting at the top and it popped right off. I also removed the black camera cover and the dome light panel so I had access for routing the wires . The plastic tools would have come in handy there because they were a bit more difficult to remove. I was worried I might break a tab on the dome light panel, but I removed it as described in previous posts and everything went fine. Used a cordless drill and the side of a regular drill bit to shave away a small "divit" on the bottom of the cam cover so the mirror cable wasn't pinched between the cover and the glass.

Eagle, I wired in my Kia mirror with compass yesterday. The 3 homering buttons work, they turn red when I push them although I haven't programmed them yet.

The weird thing is the power button or the compass work. Any idea why? Working issue or defective mirror?

Thanks in advance
#1 I was under the impression that Lux package gave you the Homelink mirror.
#2 are you saying that the compass is or is not working?

Interesting, been having my mirror in now for 7 months, with ZERO issue, how do you explain that?

I've always had a Homelink mirror in other vehicles and it simply makes it so convenient to not have openers hanging on the visor or stored here and there in the vehicle. Installed mine today. After reading this thread I was hesitant to tap into the camera or dome light wires. Questions have arisen regarding camera/sensor issues and reduced voltage etc with dome light power dimming etc. It was very simple to run 3 wires over to the right pillar and down to the fuse panel under the fuse cover by the passenger foot well. There is a dedicated direct 12volt (red wire) and ignition on (green wire) right there with easy access. I know some folks say they have used the connections to the dome/cam without issues and I hope they never do, but seems like a unnecessary risk to your cam/sensors and unreliable power from the dome light area. Especially considering it only takes 5-10 minutes to run the wires to better dedicated connections.
Which fuse # did you tap?

Thanks for the details. Many, myself included, will find your post most helpful.
