I only buy premium for our BMW’s (don’t have my Maverick yet), wife just paid $3.99 at our local station BP and I paid $3.45 at Costco.

At the end of one year use Costco rebates a percentage amount for your card purchases. It usually covers the enrollment cost.

For me it often depends on location. Where I live in the suburbs the gas is about 20-35 cents/gallon higher than at either Sam's or Costco about 15 minutes away. Saving $5 or $6 per tank of gas quickly makes up for the membership cost.

Also, Costco is top-tier gas and Sam's is not, I believe. If deciding between the two, that might be a factor.

Agreed...BP is the best gas around.. I've compared multiple brands.

I live about 2 miles from Costco and I buy their gas exclusively. I do NOT know about Ford, but Dodge & Hyundai say it is good/recommended gas.

I know just using Costco's regular gas, I do not have to spend $300 a year on maintenance for my Santa Fe (manual says don't need an additive added if you get specific type of gas).

Not only that, but I figured out one day that my savings on gas alone was more than paying for my membership..

Between .10 and .25 per gallon in N. Florida.
This. It adds up, especially on Premium fuel.

Edit: Just looked at prices for the giggles. Costco is $0.50 cheaper per gallon for Regular and $0.30 cheaper for Premium. That is about $10 in savings per fill-up on our Silverado and about $7 for our Flex.

Edit 2: $0.50 is pretty bonkers. Chevron and Exxon need to explain themselves.

In hawaii its about a dollar a gallon cheaper. Also if you shop there you get rewards that pays for your membership. We go about once every 3 weeks and spend about $300 or so. Last week they sent us a check for $28 more than our membership costs. Also its the cheapest place for pop, meat, and vegetables.

For those who are Costco members & buy gas there, what are you finding as the average savings per gallon compared to your local stations? (interested in all grades of gas)

They just opened a new Costco close to me, and I'm considering a membership just to access their gas pumps, as I've heard they are consistently cheaper than regular gas stations. Just wondering if others have found this beneficial?
I’ve saved anywhere from 5 cents to 25 cents a gallon. Most of the time the savings seems to be around 10 cents a gallon in Tulsa, OK.

Unsurprisingly, the biggest difference for gas savings at Costco is in Hawaii. Costco was around 30-40¢/gallon cheaper than regular gas stations on both Oahu and Maui. The Costcos are right by the airports too so it’s easy to fill your rental car before you return it.

Yesterday I drove from FL to northern SC, 450 Miles so One tank did the whole trip however I stopped at Costco at the end of my trip. Regular was $3.03 per gallon and on the drive all the prices I saw were close to $3.45 or more set of the savings is well worth it!

Yes, I save as much as 50 cents per gallon in the St. Louis area. The QT by my house is into some serious price gouging and it is cheaper for me to fill up across town at Costco rather than pay the highway robbery price at Quick Trip.

Our Costco is definitely cheaper. But it's not close enough to make a trip only for gas on a weekday (it'd be like a 30 minute round trip, travel only). And on Saturdays/Sundays when we're actually there to shop, the gas lines are usually insane.

So I hardly ever get gas there. My time is worth more to me than the couple bucks I'd save every few weeks

If you’re going to go cheap Costco is the way to go. Most all cheap gas stations are cutting cost on the amount of additives and refinery grade they are willing to buy. Costco takes a different track, generic grade gas whatever is common local to that store, and adding very cheap cleaners in larger amounts than other gas stations.
They get a cut rate for volume of gas they buy and due to the large lot and layout the tanker trucks are not bogged down in overlapping traffic, so can supply gas at anytime, which is key. It’s not practical to supply gas at most gas stations during mid day due to the lack of predictability on cars blocking the tanks. I used to be an almost once a day CostCo guy due the cheap lunch/cheap gas and them having just about any office supply or item of mid day needs.
But they have soured on me in general over the years and stopped going.

Do you save any money at all after sitting in lines for 35 minutes to finally reach a pump?
I almost always fill up at Costco and have never waited 35 minutes. Filled up last night....only one vehicle ahead of mine.
