It's not underrated and it's not as punchy as you think. A 0-60 time in the high 7's and a 1/4 mile in the high 15's says it all.
It's a hybrid pickup. A hybrid... pickup.

The original 1964.5 Mustang was 8.2 seconds 0-60. The 1967 Mustang GT was 0-60 in 7.3 seconds. The 1996 Mustang GT with it's new and "technologically advanced" 4.6L V8 was 6.6 seconds.

The mid-90's Ranger with its 3.0L V6 couldn't crack 10 seconds.

But more importantly: where the hell you trying to hurry off to in a hybrid pickup? How far we've come that a hybrid pickup that gets 40+ mpg and runs 0-60 in 7 seconds doesn't hit the threshold of "punchy."

Experimented with sport mode today and holy cow. This thing is beast!!!! So much fun. You could hear and feel the throttle open up.
Yeah, it surprised me, too! Much quicker than I thought and a little exhilarating and I have the hybrid. On the hybrid one will also hear the "throttle" opening up and the "gears" shifting. Fabricated sounds put there by one of the more playful Ford engineers I should think. Still, fun to hear.

mpg drops big time when I’m in sport mode. Went from 43 to 34. Still pretty good but the fun was totally worth it. Passing other crazy drivers with ease.

Driving solely in Sport mode for me still yielded a solid 10+mpg over what I get in my Ecoboost.
If it’s more enjoyable I wouldn’t hesitate to keep it in Sport mode; if you enjoy/prefer to hypermile then keep it in Normal/Eco.
Nope, just drive normally, still get in the mid-40MPG range. Hypermiling doesn't mean what some people seem to think it does. Hypermiling is when you speed up fast, usually well beyond the speed limit and coast for as long as possible after, usually to speeds well below the speed limit in most cases. That's just dangerous driving and disruptive to the flow of traffic.

Seems you need to read the bolded line because it applies to you...

Kind of off-topic for MTC, but...

I purchased a brand new 1990 Taurus SHO (white with black leather interior) and that car was a BEAST. When I picked it up, I had to accelerate up a fairly steep on-ramp to an elevated freeway section. I wasn't trying to max out the acceleration, but it was so smooth and so powerful that I was surprised to find myself at 90 mph well before getting to the merge lane, and had to back off a LOT to merge into traffic. Wow, what a feeling!

Being all white, with minimal badging, it was a real sleeper. To the cops it was just another "family sedan"... And I just loved it when some hot-shot BMW driver would pull up to me at a stop light and blip his throttle impatiently, then try to smoke me off the line. I tried real hard not to exceed the speed limit in those situations, but from zero to posted speed limit, I was rarely beaten by anything that didn't cost at least 5X the SHO's price.

After I'd had it a few months, I learned that a new section of freeway was about to open. I kept watch to see when all the barricades would be removed (other than the very first on-ramp "partial" barricade with the "closed" sign). The evening before the "grand opening" I paralleled the full length of the "to-be-opened" section along the service road to make sure it was all clear and that no cops were present. Then I went back to the staring point, drove around the barricade and opened up the SHO.

Sidebar: I had a friend whose brother worked in the Ford performance division. He had told us that Ford put a governor on the SHO at 143 mph for two reasons: 1) they didn't want to have to put even more expensive tires on it, and 2) they really didn't want to face the anger from all the Mustang GT 5.0 fanboys when a lowly Taurus would run faster than their "hot rod" pony car...

Well, that evening, on that closed section of freeway, I was able to confirm that the governor kicked in at 143 mph, and that the car felt rock-solid at that speed. The engine was still pulling pretty hard when the limiter kicked in, too. I've often wondered just how fast that car might have been without the limiter.

Now back to your regular MTC thread topic... (Sorry for the diversion.)

Wow, in 32 years you went from hitting 143 mph to a Maverick Hybrid. Congratulations on your realization that you are mortal, ;) and a vehicle is not just for speed!!!

Technically you don't need sport mode for WOT/full throttle.

Even in Eco mode, when full throttle is applied, it's the same in all modes. If it's a hybrid, both sources come up to their factory preset maximums depending on operating conditions, such as available battery power, adequate fuel supply, etc.

I can't remember where I read this, but the logic is that if full power is being requested, Eco mode is not going to damp that out to smooth the power delivery, which would ordinarily improve efficiency at the cost of a less responsive throttle. Efficiency momentarily takes a proverbial back seat.
Or as Maverick drivers say: "...takes a proverbial under rear seat storage compartment."

Ford Maverick Sports Mode in hybrid is just...wow.... StorageUnderseat

Oh, it happened a LOT sooner than that... Even as I was coasting back down to "normal" speed, I was thinking "That was at least the 2nd dumbest thing you've ever done in your entire life!" (Leaving some room for other dumb things I might have done in my even younger days.)

Let's just say that looking my kids in the eyes when I got home put an exclamation mark on that point... Never again. That one sprint to 143 was absolutely the LAST time I intentionally exceeded the speed limit by more than 10 mph.

And to make sure of that, I've never again purchased a "hot" car... The temptation might just be too great. For the last 5-6 years, I've been driving a Prius-C. In that car, you measure zero-to-sixty times with a calendar... (I stole that line from Peyton Manning, who used it to describe his 40 yard dash time...)

I wouldn't be surprised if this hybrid was underrated. It feels like the punchiest 190 hp I've ever felt.
It's the torque that makes it feel stronger. Gas & Electric at the same time is very strong.

Another reason they limited the speed is so they wouldn't shell the automatic transmissions (my dad has rebuilt a lot of them, he was a master certified transmission tech during that era!)

I believe this is what you're looking for:
That’s the chart, thanks! Totally makes sense why sometimes it’s hard to keep it at 60 mph, it just slowly creeps up to 75 effortlessly (Obviously no cruise control)
