Clav, you don't have enough miles/wear on yours, its coming. Remember i am the test mule. I drive differently then most, i drive and try to stay in e mode, which looks like its detrimental to long term reliability.

The only chance to this widespread is if Ford REVISED the damper. I will see if i can get part numbers and start there.

This is huge deal, how many members are reporting shudder, vibration, shaking.

Yes engine/trans has to b pulled as 1 unit, talk about tearing the thing apart!

Oh yeah dealers are turning a away owners already!!!

Several members have had theirs in already.

I dont know how many people went thru the MASS DAMPED FLYWHEEL(dual mass).

This is right up there with it, i have been down that road several times!!!
Do you recommend ordering an EB FWD for 2023 instead of a hybrid ? MPG doesn't seem too bad for the EB to me.

EB has its share of problems as well, no new vehicle escapes problems.
This is one of my specialty, although its a double edged sword cause they are usually my vehicles and i have a vested interest.
Now i have to decide if i want it replaced. Or drive it until it comes apart, or thow up my arms and sell, back out.

Theres no crying wolf about it, it is in its infancy, its already happening, its a shame that we have to have a catastrophic condition to get it serviced.
However if thats what it takes.

Its very early on, but if you read and listen, there have been many members that have been turned away by dealer, i am going to be on the official list as soon as they release the air cutain recall.

I dont want to sell, i really like the Mav MOSTLY.

Tedtx gets it, good questions, heres whats happpening for whatever reason the damper is destroying itself(just like dual mass flywheels of past).
Theres a code that gets set.

What can be done, when its making noise there is no way back, its already wornout.

The only thing that could possibly be done is to detune engine down to 30hp, and if your damper still good it will last longer.

However if its worn, theres no turning back it has to be replaced, AND more importantly, it has to be redesigned and it will just happen again with this present part.

Thx

It would be nice to see percentages of vehicles having this issue. I have almost 11,000mi on mine and I have zero shudder at any load/speed. The only time I feel the engine is at certain loads when the ICE starts, but it's not a shudder, I just feel it turn on. Nothing that could be described as vibration or shaking.
Me too. Would be nice to see what a survey of members with hybrids have experienced past the 10k mark.

Cheers.

If it is like you say and requires redesign, I doubt Ford has done any redesign for 2023 MY and it will likely occur for 2023 hybrids as well, doesn't look good at all

Sequence of increased shuddering events definitely suggests the damper eating up itself. With the massive communication scope of the internet, major manufacturers no longer operate in a vacuum. Ford will not be able to ignore this problem.
I was thinking the same thing. It was so much more difficult to get a auto maufacturer to acknowledge a problem 25 years ago because it was easier to keep a lid on it. One of the nice things about the internet.

I think this is being overblown. I
Currently: there is no recall, there is no TSB for this issue, there is no SSM for the issue. I can't find any cases related to this issue in the Tech Assistance Hotline.

Maybe there will be TSB/FSA for this in the future. If you have the issue, you'll have the part replaced.

If this does become a common issue, there will probably be a TSB. All a TSB does is shorten the diagnosis procedure. Ford may offer an extended coverage FSA to extend the warranty period on this part if there is a problem. Many vehicles with these extended coverage "N" or "M" FSAs never need the part replaced.

This is mind-boggling. I just ordered my 23 hybrid and now I see this. I thought this exact drivetrain was used in the Escape and was well-proven and reliable. What is different about the application in the Maverick than the Escape? Doesn't make sense to me. Like several have said, I'd really like to see some stats on what percentage of Mavs this is affecting.

I wouldn't over this thread.
I'll bet the silent majority of hybrid owners are really pleased with their purchase.
A few owner's posting here have had a flywheel replaced due to excess slippage (P0811 code) but I don't believe the flywheel has yet been shown to be the cause of the intermittent shudder some have experienced. Its infrequency suggests it could be poor engine management during certain conditions.
Have you read through this older thread? https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/forum/threads/big-shudder.10926/
Congrats on graduating!

Cheers.

Big shudder today, felt like the Hybrid was going to shake itself apart for about 2 seconds.

Was crossing a two lane street, from one side to the other, and encountered a small curb on the other side.

The curb seemed to exacerbated a minor shudder into a major event.

3000 miles.

I just noticed today, when the ICE fires up/shutsdown i get shudder/vibration.

Ok, then if its an overeation, then lets just put it to rest. I will quit hyping it up.

The members that have a shudder or vibration or weird harmonics, will just have to live with them. Its not getting worse, its not a big deal, just get the flash that will detune the engine and allow more slippage and movement in the damper.

Call it done.

I think (and hope) that this won't be a widespread problem.

Issues exist....they always have, and always will. But that doesn't necessarily mean that it will be a common issue.

Time will tell. We'll all find out soon enough. I have 5K on my hybrid, no issues.
