Jerks in oversized pikuptruks are NOT gearheads. Real gearheads IMPROVE their vehicles with modifications. The 'Bro Dozer' crowd take an already bad vehicle, then spend thousands to MAKE IT WORSE.

I own a newer Mustang and sometimes hang out with Mustang and other performance car enthusiasts. No real hate, but they're indifferent to the Maverick. Just another boring vehicle. I could see some interest in tuning an Ecoboost to 300+ hp and lowering it, etc. but it would probably take a 400 hp turbo 6 option from the factory to really get their attention.

Michigan is roughly 9 out of 10 vehicles the big 3....I once had some hillbilly with motor, muffler, carb stickers all over his rear window flip me the bird in my electric car... Michigan, motor city...very anti electric/hybrid. oh well...
Didnt consider that. I'm in vegas. Land of the rental cars. Nobody cares what you are driving as long as you are going with traffic

Thats because they arent gear heads. They are dudes with too much money. I think of 3 things only in life. My wife and what it takes to keep her next to me. My back and all other general pains from half a life(only 38) of hard ass work. Third is what I spend the other 75% of my brain power on, thinking about cars, building, fixing, thrashing, perfect throttle modulation, riding the curves, etc, etc..... I am a real gearhead and whether they like it or not, everyone that thinks they are falls under my judgment.

That judgement is that the Maverick is flipping awesome. Its the throwback of the future. It strikes at the roots of hotrodding, offroading, American culture, and the working mans struggle. Ultimate gearhead platform. Its cheap, quick, utilitarian, strip-able, cheap, modify-able, and cheap.

It ain't a real truck. I don't mean to bust your bubble, but it's just not. Unless it can pull a grain wagon to the co-op, and thats not even counting out of a field. Unless it can pull a skid loader into a jobsite. Untill then, it's just a useful truck shaped object. You mean, comments like that?

That's what you are dealing with when you start talking trucks with farmers, construction guys, and wannabes To them, something like a mav is something cute to buy the wife.

As for me,, I've heard it about my rangers for years. I just say it fits my needs and a big one doesnt. It's mostly a commuter to get me from the country to my job in the city, and not use too much gas. Something that will also haul sound equipment, lawnmowers, fishing gear, a big dog in a kennel, home improve, tools, and who knows what else. But of course, not all at once. Luckily, sound gear has gotten better and smaller in the last 30 years. Like pickups, maybe?

This. My wife was driving my mav and even though she isn't a truck girl or even tuned into the truck thing at all, she noticed a guy in a huge bro-dozer literally smirking at her because she was driving a compact pickup. I asked her "how much stuff was he hauling in the bed" and she said "nothing, it looks new like he never uses it".

That idiot was driving around 3 or 4 tons of metal as a daily driver. Lift and huge gnarly tires that never see anything but the street. I mean, to each his own and more power to you and all that, but he is driving that thing back and forth to work getting about 10mpg with today's gas prices? D.U.M.B..

The Maverick is exactly what I need for my lifestyle and I enjoy driving it. Fuel economy is great, I can take leisurely drives with no major hit to the wallet, and it gives me some decent utility. What I can't fit in the bed, I can haul in my utility trailer. That's where I'm at in life and the Maverick is great!

I have friends with classic muscle cars and I've been to some of these shows. I admire the cars and trucks and the celebration of that era, but I certainly wouldn't expect my Maverick to warrant attention from these enthusiasts.
I can imagine they feel threatened a bit by the trend, like Dodge announcing the end of V8's, gasoline and so forth. I understand that and I don't begrudge them wanting to hold on to something so impactful and important to their lives. Some younger guys I know don't really understand how important automobiles were to boys/men before the age of social media, gaming, and other modern cultural distractions.

A lot of guys who like the full-size trucks but don't 'need a truck' do it because of the high riding position. They're usually schmucks compensating for something so it's the only time they get to look down on someone else. ;)

The Maverick 2.0EB Lariat-Lux is a nicer ride in every way than my 2018 XLT 2.7EB... but it doesn't have that high riding position so the doooshnozzlers don't like it. It doesn't have enough ground clearance for the off-road crowd to appreciate it. It doesn't have enough towing capacity or bed space for the "I need a truck to-truck-things" crowd.

... and so that is why the Maverick doesn't get as much love as it could.

If Ford could actually deliver on the hybrids it would probably be the best selling car in America. Unfortunately they're unobtanium,

I'm thinking of putting a decal on the rear window ( But I get 45Mpg ) open to suggestions, when it gets here. I can't imagine driving up to the pump in a daily driver that gets single digits.

I can't recall the last time I knew somebody whose entire identity was tied to the vehicle they owned or drove. 🤷‍♂️

I live in Michigan...tons of car cruises, shows...when I go to them...NOT showing my maverick or anything, just driving it there and parking...Why oh why do all the gear heads HATE the maverick....? They all have the small peter syndrome and drive giant beefed up trucks...the haters are just ALL OVER against the maverick. I love the bugger, everything about it...but god almighty, the assholes out there that bad mouth it...they can't even contain their hatred in your presence. ok...rant over.
I'm betting they have a different opinion while they're pumping $200 worth of gas into those trucks.

It must be a thing, because I have received many surveys from Ford and other auto entities recently, and a significant number of questions involve how a vehicle is perceived, how it affects status, and whether it "feels" a certain way (prestigious, sporty, empowering are some their selections). It certainly doesn't mean squat to me, but automobiles are known to an expression of status for many. The automobile manufactures certain know this.
