Maybe my father-in-law would sell you his '09 Hyundai accent...with 280k miles. We gave it to him 6yrs ago when we bought our jetta. He beats the tar out of it, commuting in stop-and-go traffic 100+ miles a day. We beat the snot out of it for 6yrs before giving it to him. It has had zero work outside of normal maintenance and still drives like a top.

My sister also drives an elantra with 150k+ completely trouble free miles and my parents previous vehicle was a Sonata, that my step-father crashed and totaled at over 200k trouble-free miles. Kia and Hyundai have been near the top of almost every reliability ranking for over a decade now.
Naw he can keep it….seems to be his lucky charm😃

The days of bullet proof cars no matter what the brand is over imo. After having a 2006 Chevy Malibu SS needing to have the head removed three times due to "gasket/coolant leaks" before it hit 60k miles, I bought a Corolla in 2010 (1st import in almost 40 years of driving "American" cars) which has been literally problem free due to defects for the past 165k (now driven by my son). But my 2017 Camry (which I drive with great care) needed a wheel bearing, coolant seal outside of the water pump, battery cable (all under the 125k extended warranty) and likely needs a new rack and pinion (oil coating the outside of a rubber boot on passenger side) and the gear shifter is a bit rough when shifting using sequential manual shifting, which I hope to have covered with 2,000 miles left of the warranty all tells me getting 250,000 trouble free miles out of a new car is over.

I ordered the maverick (eb, awd, fx4, tow, moon roof, rear slider, full size spare, and alto blue at MSRP of $30,300) due to the low cost which would pay for $10,000 worth of repairs (not to mention the reduced fuel cost) before it catches up to the cost of a Tacoma, Ridgeline, Santa cruse etc.

Hoping to have a good experience with the maverick, but time will tell 😉

Let me ask this, would a $37k Maverick EB Lariat Lux FX4 at msrp not be worth it? I know it's not the cheap hybrid anymore. But I'm looking for the compact truck with the creature comforts of a daily commuter. Do you guys think I'll be disappointed at MSRP with the truck at this price?

And besides the Santa Cruz and stretching to Ridgeline what else is there? I don't want a Ranger, F-150, Colorado, Tacoma etc. I'm looking at Maverick for size, bed, car like ride, amenities (ACC) but still some ruggedness and reasonably affordable. Not sure what else I could look at I haven't....

Edit - again thanks all for input and keeping the discussion constructive. Really has been helpful.
New ? None. Unless you have 70k to drop on rivian That’s it . As for older models 2013 GMC Canyon

As I'm driving on the highway with ACC, we come to construction. Slow way down, nearly to a stop. The ACC cuts off saying too slow. Apparently the Ridgeline ACC is not stop and go... That may be the fatal flaw in my getting one. Glad I drove as a rental probably never would have realized that.
Weird I actually really like Honda's ACC. It slows down kind of slowly and late so it's easier to pass people on the interstate. With the Tesla I normally have to hold my go-pedal.

Honestly the lane centering and ACC had been great until then. But not doing stop and go is a deal killer. I'm in Houston and the commute hits stop and go almost every time. It's one of the main aspects of one of my must have features, ability to keep working on stop and go conditions.

So I fly to Denver today for work. What do I see when I get to the rental lot but one of the options is a Ridgeline. I grab it so I can do an extended test drive for next couple days.

First I notice it seems to drag, especially off the line. Feels like a turbo lag, but no turbo. I put it in sport mode, same thing. I see it's is Eco mode, which doesn't turn off even when you activate sport. Much more responsive after Eco is off.

Having luggage, going in to meet someone at a restaurant. I can throw my carry on bag and backpack into the bed trunk easy. Very convenient for out of sight storage.

Good experience- A ridgeline owner on here did mention you had to stomp on the gas to get it moving- FYI

Don't forget pretty solid fuel economy even in ICE. I honestly am not sure what else would be a similar alternative in the $40k range besides SC maybe Ridgeline, much less be nicer for the money. I don't want bigger, I don't need to tow more, I don't want a harsher ride. A top of the line truck at 37k is pretty darn good. The fact it will have skid plates and some degree of off road chops on top of refinement is great. And I don't think the SC is nicer as much as different. Different strengths (bed trunk, ventilated seats, warranty) different weaknesses (no dials, less off road chops, less fuel efficiency) but similar. From there the next closest is still a pretty big difference (Ridgeline). After that it's a different animal completely.
That is basically what I have, a loaded up Eco Lariat Lux with 4k and FX4. I think it's totally worth it. To get the same in a Ranger or F150 or competing model would cost a lot more and I still get good gas mileage. The ACC on the highway is great, in fact I am driving it down to Houston next month if you want to have a look.

I didn't want to construct the most cost effective version, I wanted enough capability with the creature comforts and it is still a great value IMO.

If you are in town and don't mind letting me take a look it would be great.

Mac Haik called saying they have a Lariat coming in hope to take a look at it or even drive it soon but not confident in that. Plan on ordering in August either way. Even if I don't end up taking it, shouldn't hurt.

Will be staying in the Willowbrook area mid to late August. PM me if interested around then if still looking to see this setup.

While I have not yet been in the back seat of the Maverick - I have been in the backseat of the Santa Cruz that I own which is a cramped back seat! According to reviews, the Maverick is supposed to be roomier in the back seat than the SC.

I have a Maverick Hybrid on order, that I hope to enoy diriving enough for local runs - great gas mileage will be greatly appreciated! Hopeful to keep the SC as my choice for Hway long drives. That is unless the Hybrid (Lariat w lux package and loaded) performs comfortably. I will report back once I have more information, For now the Hybrid I have on order will not be ready for months... (ordered July 2021).
I'm ordering 2 ea. 'Birds @1200. See my Dealer for pre-stuff. No deposit.. MSRP. Maybe 2% mark-up but I want THAT in writting! Happy Trails!

K, Frens it went like this at Autonation today. I placed orders for MY 23. I currently and luckily drive a Maverick XL 2.0 and absolutely love it. I ordered 2 ea. Hybrids, one is the XLT package (Cyber Orange wasn't available in the XL. I really dig that color...NOW) and I also ordered a Hybrid XL in Carbonized Gray just like my current 'UTE". I like that color. It really sparkles on the Beach. Anyway we got to the nut-cuttin' time and here's the Balance Sheet as follows:XL Supercrew Hybrid Carbonized Gray Trailor Hitch Reciever $100.00 MY22 price $22,590 + 2% (maybe even 3 but HEY!). On to the XLT. I really like the Cyber Orange. Enough so to spend the extra $495.00 and the XLT trim upgrade. Hitch receiver $100.00. MSRP for MY22 is $25,450.00. Total it up, add 2% and PRESTO! You'll prolly have a 2-year wait. These UTES (Unicorns) will be worth 50% more when they roll off the hauler. Don't get me wrong here, I'm NOT a vampire/flipper. I'm just f'n old and see these as a nice way to cruise out of this life. Love this thing! I may just keep this for my personal driver. I just dumped $900.00 om speakers!
