Seems odd to me. By the numbers, Maverick (2.0 Ecoboost) has 36.9" legroom, Santa Cruz has 36.5".

So I went by 4 dealers and drove 4 vehicles that have been in consideration. The plan was to only drive the Maverick, but to be honest we weren't sold. In fairness the Maverick was a XLT so not in the same class for amenities as others. But my son was concerned the Maverick was a little cramped with him in the back seat (my wife needs the seat pretty far back due to knee issues, I'm 6' so I need it back too, and he's almost 15 so growing by the day.)

Maverick EB AWD XLT- It was "used" with 110 miles, they wanted a silly 40k didn't even have the luxury package. Loved the ride, drove very nice. Confirmed I would want a Lariat (needed for auto cruise any). Just felt cramped...

Santa Cruz - 2.5 Turbo (SEL Premium I think) - honestly really nice. Jumped to number one for my son, and I admitted it gave me a lot to think about. More room, liked the bed trunk that can be a cooler, really moved nicely. Didn't love the lack of dials on radio but could get used to it. And with the Limited I could get ventilated seats which is nice in Houston. This may be in lead I admit.

Mazda CX-50 - 2.5S Preferred Plus (non turbo) - Drove nice, but just another crossover. Dropped off list.

Ridgeline (Black Edition, but poked around RLT which is what we would consider) - I had already driven one as a rental a month or so ago. Really like it for comfort, ride, etc. Don't love that it's bigger, gas mileage even worse than SC, and it actually has lower ground clearance than either by a good bit. My son fell in love, but I think it's the finish more than vehicle.

Now I'm torn. I'm thinking of putting in a Maverick order for Lariat with Lux and letting my wife and son go on test drive of it. If they say no I let the dealer keep it and they get the ADM. Someone sell me here, why the Maverick because I want to love it. It would be the cheapest of three but any of them will be around $40k +-. We buy and drive til they die (my son is getting my Edge next year that's only reason we are looking) so resale isn't a factor, but reliability is.
Yeah I said fuck it and bought a 2022 Ridgeline RTL I love it it is way nicer than the Maverick I might buy the Maverick for my daughter when my order finally gets built.

My maverick backup plan was the tucson hybrid not the santa cruz.
Panama Cityt Beach Fl. Ordered Carbonized Gray Metallic (Great in Florida Sun) XL and just spent $900.00 on speaker upgrade. Priorities! I'm ordering 2 ea. Hybrids today. My Dealer told me I can adjust my Build as desired. I'm def in line. Just happy I got even ONE! I bought OEM mud guards, Weathertech mats, bed rug and cargo rails 3 months before my 'Unicorn' even arrived! The wait was agonizing at times because I really needed a truck. Now time is not an issue. THIS wait won't be so frantic! Happy Trails and GOD bless USSA!

Coming from a new Carbonized Gray XL Maverick owner GOD forgive me for my Covetness! The paint kinda looks like FMC's Area 51 only nicer. However, you prolly paid 2X I did for mine. I hate you. Don't EVER park next to my new Maverick. My truck would turn Chili Pepper Red!

I have a family of 5 that have had no issues with the maverick since September 2021. I am 6"1, my wife is 5"8, we have a 9 month 70lb puppy that sits shotgun on the floor up front, and 3 kids in the back. You get a ton of space and fuel economy for under 30k period.

Beautiful!!! My buddy has a green RTL. Paid $15,000 more than I did for the Maverick Hybrid Area 51. Loves it. Me too! The Maverick is working fine for me. I put a little gas in it when I fill up a can for the boat. Love that part for sure.

I purchased a Santa Cruz SEL Premium. Tubo 2.5 liter has immediate push and the DCT transmission is very smooth shifting (also has paddle shifters). Only 40 miles in so little in the way of long term review. I sold a Canyon crew all-terrain with 3.6 V6. I will say that the smoothness and handling are light-years ahead of the GMC (which handled pretty good for body on frame truck). It has the smaller entertainment system screen (but has physical control of volume, tuning, and temperature-unlike the limited which is 100% touch screen) and is the standard sound system. In my ears (and before speaker break-in) sound is much crispier than the Bose in the GMC. Seats (cloth) are very supportive (also heated) and driver's seat is 8 way power. I like it thus far and I am not sure if the ordered Maverick (lariat Lux) can/will supplant it. I won't bog this Maverick forum with Hyundai dribble, but ask questions if you have them.

The word "reliability" is what you used.... Honda Ridgeline is the choice if that is all you're considering. If Size, Cost, MPG's are a factor its the Maverick. If you're thinking easy comfort then chose the Mazda... If your going for ass ugly by all means you want the Santa Cruz.

IMO, that happens at $30k. More power to all the lariat lux drivers out there, but if we were looking at spending more than the $26k OTD we paid for our XLT hybrid, we're probably not even considering a Maverick.

Absolutely love our Maverick, but it's a mode of transportation. Regardless of my ability to pay a lot more, it's just something that gets me from point A to B - my first priority is doing that as efficiently as possible. A truck provides a lot of utility for our lifestyle (a lot of year-round activities, 4 bikes to transport, etc.) , but it is certainly not a need . We would have been fine with a Hyundai ioniq or sonata hybrid at $30k or so...no way would we have considered that hideous and overpriced Santa Cruz.

FWIW, I'm 6'1", wifey is 5'8", and we have two kids. Also, my wife's 6'1" best friend has spent more time in the back seat than anybody (she's a single mom with limited resources - we've basically become her free taxi the last 6 months), including recently coming with us on a 600+ mile roundtrip. I've never heard her complain about lack of room in the back.
Is anyone aware of any other small vehicle with a truck bed, AWD, over 240hp, can tow 4K lbs, and has all the technology bells and whistles (ACC, lane assist, heated seats/wheel, moonroof, etc) for less than $38k brand new?

That may sound like a lot for a Maverick, but with the creature features being a must have, the only other competitor is the Santa Cruz.

From your post, it looks like you're getting a Santa Cruz with the turbo if you weren't set on a hybrid. If I wasn't sold on the hybrid I would have likely already had my Santa Cruz for months now.

Hyundai's warranty is hard to beat for those that run their cars in to the ground. Those saying to beware Hyundai are also waiting/own Mavericks that have had multiple recalls and repair bulletins so reliability shouldn't be what keeps you at Ford.

I'm currently debating if I keep my order or trade it for a 23 Ioniq 5 and a small trailer when I need to do "truck things" as the hybrid has the same towing capacity.

All depends on how much you actually need a truck. There simply is not a comparable alternative <$40k (outside the Santa Cruz), but that's irrelevant for me because we didn't need a truck. Based upon Ford's marketing and my time spend on this board, I think a lot of buyers are in the same category as I am.

We absolutely love the Maverick, but even 3+ months into ownership and with no complaints; in hindsight, we still likely are looking elsewhere at the $30k pricepoint (because a sedan meets our needs fine). YMMV.

While I have not yet been in the back seat of the Maverick - I have been in the backseat of the Santa Cruz that I own which is a cramped back seat! According to reviews, the Maverick is supposed to be roomier in the back seat than the SC.

I have a Maverick Hybrid on order, that I hope to enoy diriving enough for local runs - great gas mileage will be greatly appreciated! Hopeful to keep the SC as my choice for Hway long drives. That is unless the Hybrid (Lariat w lux package and loaded) performs comfortably. I will report back once I have more information, For now the Hybrid I have on order will not be ready for months... (ordered July 2021).
