The maverick has more room for growing family and holds its value better than the cruz. 40k mark up kinda sucks though. If you plan keeping it for 5+ years the cruz may be the better deal now . Not fan of the cruz front end but weighing price and what you need is factor as well

If you can get a good deal on the Santa Cruz, get that.

Maverick has so many issues already, imagine what will happen to them once the warranty expires. Honda Ridgeline is awesome, but too expensive for what it is. You can get a full sized luxurious American truck or a nice non-American Hybrid SUV for the Ridgeline's cost.

Hyundai's warranty beats them all and has decent MPG. It is naturally aspirated and should last at least 150k miles where with Turbocharged vehicles, you can run into problems at around the 80-90k mark. (Especially American Cars)

Whatever you do, don't pay a markup on any of them. The crash is just around the corner.

If Toyota made a $20k Hybrid Pickup truck, that would jump straight to the top of the list no matter what, but all they are good for are 17MPG 4 cylinder Tacomas that cost $40-60k at dealerships.

We owned a 2021 Chevy trailblazer that got totaled out. There were no Chevy Trailblazers anywhere to be found and the used ones were way overpriced. When stuck for a car out of state, when few new cars where available, we were calling around for a front wheel drive vehicle we could tow with our MH and could tow a small boat.. My son in law showed me the Maverick site which was very interesting but none were available. It was down to the Santa Cruz and Ford Escape until a Ford dealer and told me that someone had backed out on a Lariat Maverick. I had already looked at a Santa Cruz and liked it but the only front wheel drive model was 100 miles away and pricey and lower than expected fuel mileage. We would up with the Lariat Maverick Hybrid and it has been awesome so far. We drove it 1200 miles home averaging 40 mpg with mostly highway driving on its first trip. We have owned it for 6 months and it has be great. I have moved storage, helped my daughter with a dance show moving all of the props, launched are boats, picked up building supplies and now have the truck bed to go to the transfer station without the garbage smell in the back. I don’t know how I could replace it with another truck for the money we spent. The tech isn’t the best but from a senior citizens perspective it is terrific coming from my passed. I have been getting 50+ miles per gallon in my local area. Just amazing!

People cross shop Lexus and Mavericks?

Selling our RX350 for the maverick when it comes in. We've had Mercedes BMW Lexus Acura and were nice vehicles. BMW 528 had turbo fail at 20k miles so didn't keep that. We sold the 2 Mercedes we had when used car prices skyrocketed along with the CR-V. Never had a little pickup or Ford before and when I saw the mpg said why not. Figured we can always sell it if we don't like it and not take much of a hit . This crazy used car market has allowed me to try out new cars which is pretty cool. Taking delivery of a Bolt EUV this week pretty excited.

All, really appreciate the feedback. Few things clarifying and also notes from some general comments.

1. It was a yellow XLT at Toyota of Katy off 10 near Mason. Since they want 40k for a used 27k truck not sure if it'll fly off the shelf if anyone is in the area looking for a drive.

2. The whole 4 drive experience took literally 2.5 hours leaving to returning home. I was blown away how fast it went. I saw the Maverick about 2:30 and submitted a request online for availability. At 3 they called and confirmed in stock. I left at 4 for an appointment at 4:15, walked into the 3 other dealerships in Katy area one after other with no appointments, drove the vehicles, left. It was surreal.

3. I actually really loved the drive and pep of the Maverick. I can be very happy with it. It's more hearing about it every time we go somewhere. From what I am reading here I can tell I need to get my wife and son into a Lariat and see if that changes things.

4. The comments made about the other vehicles we own are fair and I had thought the same thing. We will still have the Edge until my son takes it to college or it dies. It does have 135k miles so we'll see how long it lasts. My wife has a 2014 Altima with 27k miles... It should last many years still and could be a fine family mobile as well.

5. I know I could love the Maverick. I may be able to love the SC, it just wasn't a real consideration before. I don't know if I can ever love the Ridgeline. I could be fine with it, and comfortable in it, but I won't love it. It's why I am leaning away from it.

6. I think I need to get my son in the back seat again. He could make it work I think, and as noted we ride all 3 together less and less. I'll keep my eyes open for a Lariat in stock, and likely order one with the hopes it works out. If not we pivot and the dealer keeps it.

The maverick had 27k miles on it already? Wow the difference of the cruz and maverick is about 3k based off your listed msrp of 40k for the maverick. The maverick holds more value hence the adjusted price. If value isnt a big thing it would get the cruz or look at Tucson or ranger. Your son would like 4x4 ranger maybe? You can get one for 41kish.. The tucson a tucson hybrid starts at 29k to 35k for the plug in. Personally i would look at tucson before buying a cruz

If you fold the mavrick seat down and lay flat you will find a nice big indent on the leg room allowing you to stretch your feet straight out I'm 6ft 3 in the seat with my legs straight out isn't something I can do in most vechiles. For the driver side it's behind the pedals

Go online and price the Mav. Even though I have one coming, for fun I priced a Hybrid, Lariat, Lux, Co-Pilot 360, SIBL and it was around $33,500. That's a long way from $40k.

Just to piggy back, you can still get some decent deals on a maverick with some dealer orders and such.

Personally I paid 33k+TTL for my loaded EB Mav. No other brand could come close to the value at that price.

Honestly what sold me on the Maverick was price and hybrid. My other vehicle is a Bronco, love it but the Maverick literally gets double the MPG. The Maverick is my around town vehicle, as the British would say it's cheap and cheerful. I have a FE hybrid and with Chapman Ford pricing I paid a little over $31k OTD.

People compare the Maverick to many different types of vehicles but you can't lose site this car was built to a price point and for what it is it's pretty darn nice.

My thoughts for the OP:

If you are considering CUV's then you have a lot of different options available. If you want a hybrid a RAV4 should be considered. Especially if you are paying above MSRP for a Maverick.

Maverick Hybrid and Ecoboost are on a different level when comparing MPG. Which is right for you? Depends on what capabilities you "need" and how much of a premium you put on MPG. See above.

Ridgeline - We get 26/27 MPG on my wife's 2019 AWD model. We just did a 1200+ mile round trip driving 75-85 MPH most of the way. Three adults, luggage, and bucking a headwind for 1/2 the trip. Two adults and a tailwind for most of the return trip. How much better MPG would the Ecoboost or Santa Cruz be on the same trip? Honda resale is steller but the cost of ownership may be debatable considering the Honda scheduled 100K timing belt change and upfront costs. If looks and upfront costs were not part of the equation I would choose the Ridgeline every time due to reliability, dealer network, and RESALE.

Bed is 6" shorter, and it shows when you look at it. Not sure if that translates into the bad but it is a negative against the SC. But the trunk under bed and integrated tonneau cover were big positives of SC.

yes, an equivalent tonneau cover for the maverick and spray in bed liner would be around $2500.
